About The Position

Steel Dynamics, Inc. (SDI) is a Fortune 500 company and the third-largest carbon steel producer in the U.S. The Long Products Division, Steel of West Virginia (SWVA), has an opening for a CNC Lathe Operator (Roll Turner). This role is for a dynamic, organized, and motivated individual to join the team. Roll Turners are responsible for setting up, programming, and monitoring large industrial lathes to form metal blanks into specific shapes required for rolling steel products in SWVA, Inc.'s two rolling mills.

Requirements

Meaningful experience on CNC lathes (including proficiency in the use of micrometers and calipers).
Mechanical ability.
Blueprint reading ability.
Programming experience on CNCs.
Computer skills.

Responsibilities

Setting up lathes through installation process, verifying settings by accurately measuring positions, monitoring progress, and conducting quality control checks with guidance.
Taking measurements, detecting malfunctions, troubleshooting processes, adjusting and reprogramming controls, sharpening and replacing worn tools, and maintaining quality assurance procedures and processes.
Planning machining by studying work orders, blueprints and specifications and interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerances.
Programming lathes to create new rolls from metal blanks or to dress rolls to return them to within required specifications by entering instructions, setting tool registries, and calculating requirements.
Making accurate calculations using basic math, geometry and trigonometry.
Other duties as required.
