About The Position

Phoenix Laser Solutions is seeking an experienced CNC Lathe Machinist for their facility in Meadville, PA. As the largest YAG laser welding house in North America, Phoenix Laser Solutions serves diverse industries including aerospace, medical, defense, and injection mold customers. This role is an operator-track position where you will be responsible for running jobs, owning setups, and making program edits at the machine. While CAM programming is a separate role, there is a potential path for growth into programming for those interested. You will work in a high-mix shop environment with a range of lathes from manual ProtoTrak to multi-axis DMG MORI turning centers, alongside senior operators and programmers.

Requirements

  • 1+ year of CNC lathe operating experience. Other CNC backgrounds (mill, multi-tasking, manual) will be considered if the candidate is willing to cross-train onto lathes.
  • Comfortable reading prints, including GD&T symbols and callouts.
  • Able to perform own setups on standard jobs.
  • Able to make basic edits to programs at the machine, such as adjusting tool offsets, feeds, and speeds.
  • Attention to detail and pride in tight-tolerance work.

Nice To Haves

  • Multi-axis turning experience.
  • Reading G-code fluently.
  • Experience with FANUC, MAPPS, or CELOS controls.
  • High-mix / short-run shop experience.
  • Background in aerospace, medical, or defense components.
  • CAM exposure (ESPRIT, Mastercam, Fusion) for potential growth toward programming.

Responsibilities

  • Run CNC lathe jobs across a mix of materials and tolerances.
  • Set up jobs from prints and travelers, including selecting tooling and dialing in feeds and speeds.
  • Read prints fluently, including GD&T callouts.
  • Adjust tool offsets, feeds, and make basic program edits at the machine when needed.
  • Inspect first articles and document FAIs.
  • Troubleshoot setups or programs that are not behaving as expected, and seek assistance from senior programmers or operators when necessary.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce cycle time, extend tool life, and improve quality.
