The Lead Machinist assist the Machine Shope Supervisor in managing production for particular job or set of products. They recommend strategies in ensuring that the production process is completed successfully, in accordance with all specifications.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 1 year experience as a lathe operator or technician
  • Ability to read, speak and write in English
  • Monitors production in the CNC Lathe department.
  • Experience setting up and operating CNC Lathe is required.
  • Excellent coordination and mechanical skills
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and safety
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in math
  • Basic computer skills
  • Understand GD&T
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing environment is a requirement

Nice To Haves

  • Conventional machining experience is a plus
  • Current or active security clearance is a plus
  • Machining training is a plus
  • Experience on HAAS equipment is a plus
  • Composite experience is a plus
  • in the aerospace industry is a plus
  • Programming is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Operates and maintains CNC Lathe machines.
  • Reviews drawings, instructions, blueprints or samples to ensure accurate production.
  • Takes precise measurements for cutting or shaping using SMI, calipers, mics, and height gages.
  • Set up jobs and select appropriate settings for a given task.
  • Read and understand sketches, drawings, and work instructions.
  • Monitors production, adjusting feed and other settings as necessary and verifying results.
  • Checks output for quality assurance and documents or discards defects.
  • Identifies need for and performs machine maintenance and minor repairs.
  • Makes decisions independently as required.
  • Safely performs tasks, follows applicable safety practices, policies, and safe work behavior.
  • Maintains a safe and clean workstation.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related tasks as needed.
  • Recommends strategies to ensure the product is developed successfully, in accordance with all specifications.
  • Work with supervisor and other team leads to prioritize staffing assignments to ensure customer demand and the production schedules are met.
  • Report problems or concerns with quality, processes, equipment, material and labor to Machine Shop Supervisor.
  • Work closely with support staff such as Technicians, Manufacturing Engineering, Production Supervisor, Program Managers, Planners and Materials/Warehouse to resolve issues.
  • Multi-task, take initiative, and communicate clearly with your team and management.
  • Trains and mentors new team members.
