About The Position

Mechanical Dynamics and Analysis LLC, a world-class supplier of power generation services, parts, and repairs, has an immediate opening for a qualified individual who has a desire to join a growing organization and an appetite for diverse and technically challenging work. The Bearings, Seal & Hydraulics division is looking for a CNC Horizontal Boring Mill (HBM) Machinist. The CNC Horizontal Boring Mill (HBM) Machinist is responsible for setting up, programming, and operating computer-controlled machines to precision-machine large, heavy metal or composite workpieces. Responsibilities include reading blueprints, programming & editing G-code, setting tools & offsets, operating overhead cranes to position raw materials, and inspecting finished parts using precision measuring tooling.

  • Understanding of mathematical concepts such as percentages, geometry and trigonometry, etc.)
  • Strong knowledge of G & M machining codes
  • Strong knowledge of technical drawing reading skills.
  • Strong knowledge of CNC -HBM computer programs and control panels.
  • Must be able to understand and apply quality standards and gauging.

  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, specifications, sketches, engineering orders, work instructions, charts, graphs and other source documents to determine the methods and sequence of operations for the machining of parts and materials and tooling
  • Set up, make offset, program adjustments, & operate computer-controlled machines to perform one or more machine functions on metal workpieces
  • Perform mathematical calculations and layout center lines, reference points, machining guidelines and angular dimensions on materials, parts, assemblies and tooling for machining processes.
  • Use proper material handling techniques to ensure quality of product and care of equipment.
  • Use of overhead cranes/rigging
  • Understanding general machine practices on a variety of material types
  • Work from part drawings and use required precision measuring instruments to verify manufactured parts and inspect work
  • Adjust machine cutting paths or settings to optimize production while maintaining quality, safety and efficiency
  • Make machine adjustments, program edits, machine set up, tool changes, etc. as required
  • Apply a working knowledge of machining characteristics of various materials and metals to pre-set cutting tools on the machine.
  • Adapt and/or improvise tooling where standard tooling is unavailable.
  • Setup and adjust machine controls to include speeds, feeds and depth of cut, and proper axis to meet configuration requirements.
  • Operate multi-position machines and perform contouring, profiling, turning, back spot facing, boring, milling, drilling, slotting and tapping on materials, parts, assemblies and tooling.
  • Listen to machines during operation to detect sounds such as those made by dull cutting tools or excessive vibration and adjust machines to compensate for problem.
  • Use hand, power tools and precision measuring instruments to check work in progress and final product for conformance to dimensional, configuration and surface finish requirements and tolerances.
  • Post machine hand work/deburring of components
  • Read and interpret blueprints and inspection reports
  • Examine completed workpieces for defects.
  • Measure dimensions of finished workpieces to ensure conformance to specifications using precision measuring instruments, templates, and fixtures.
  • Identify all work in process pieces and finished goods pieces.
  • Maintain a safe & clean working environment
  • Clock on/off jobs for job timekeeping records.
  • Follows the Company’s programming standards.
  • Meeting the quality standards of the company while rework is held to a minimum.
  • Is responsible for making various parts to customer specifications by operating horizontal boring mill machines
  • Maintain and ensure accurate counts on completed parts and scrapped parts.
  • Effectively communicate continuity among work shifts by documenting actions, irregularities and continuing needs.
  • May be required to perform inspections and analyses of processes to determine the appropriate actions needed to maintain quality levels on parts and processes.
  • Maintain accurate records.
  • Maintain equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; troubleshooting malfunctions and/or calling for maintenance.
  • Maintain maintenance records.
  • Reports issues in a timely manner to the VP or General Manager of BSH Division.
