About The Position

Stellios Technologies is building advanced high-power microwave and energy systems for defense, aerospace, and energy. The CNC & Assembly Technician will help establish the company’s machine shop by selecting and purchasing equipment, installing and commissioning machines, and then machining and assembling parts used in the company’s hardware. The role combines manual and CNC machining, shop setup and maintenance, programming and fixturing, drawing and GD&T work, inspection, and mechanical assembly and integration. Parts produced may be incorporated into a running system the same week. The technician will work directly with engineers and contribute to making the shop safe, organized, and effective in an early-stage environment where processes may need to be developed and documented. This is an onsite role in Austin and requires qualification as a U.S. person under applicable export control laws.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated hands-on ability to build things; no degree is required. Applicants should be able to demonstrate parts they have personally made and hardware they have personally assembled.
  • Experience setting up a shop or major machines and knowledge of what equipment and supplies to buy.
  • Competence with both manual and CNC equipment and the judgment to choose the appropriate approach.
  • Fluency in reading drawings and GD&T, and ability to create drawings when none exist.
  • Ability to hold and verify real tolerances and inspect one's own work.
  • Ability to perform assembly as well as machining, ensuring parts work in the completed machine.
  • Comfort working in an early-stage environment where the shop and processes are still being established and problems must be figured out and documented.
  • Must qualify as a U.S. person under applicable export control laws; eligible categories include U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, lawful permanent residents, refugees, and asylees.

Responsibilities

  • Specify, source, and purchase machine tools, tooling, workholding, and metrology equipment as the shop is established.
  • Install, level, commission, and maintain machines, and keep them operating.
  • Machine parts using manual and CNC equipment, including mills, lathes, grinders, and additional equipment as it is added.
  • Program and set up machining operations, including CAM, workholding, fixturing, and speeds and feeds.
  • Read, mark up, and create drawings and models using GD&T.
  • Machine precision parts from aluminum, stainless steel, copper, and refractory metals, including vacuum-compatible hardware.
  • Perform mechanical assembly and integration, including fastener torque, alignment, shimming, and fit work.
  • Inspect work and perform first article checks using calipers, micrometers, height gauges, indicators, and CMM when required.
  • Work directly with engineers and identify designs that cannot be manufactured or cannot be manufactured affordably.
  • Maintain shop safety, tooling inventory, and consumables, and keep the shop customer-ready.
  • Develop and document processes in an early-stage environment.
