About The Position

The CNC Apprentice is an entry-level position designed to provide hands-on training and support to the CNC team while learning about CNC machine operations and maintenance. The role will focus on increasing machining productivity, improving machine performance, and maintaining a clean and safe work environment. Under the guidance of the CNC Operator and CNC Manager, the CNC Apprentice will assist with various tasks, including material preparation, machine setup, tool servicing, and housekeeping. This position offers the opportunity to gain valuable technical skills in CNC machining, contributing to both personal growth and team success.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous exposure to CNC machinery or manufacturing environments, preferred
  • Basic understanding of CAD/CAM software or machining processes is beneficial but not required, preferred
  • Willingness to pursue formal training or certification in CNC machining or related fields, preferred
  • Ability to adapt to a fast-paced work environment and remain flexible to changing priorities, preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assist the CNC Operator with preparing and rigging materials for machining, ensuring proper materials are selected, properly measured, and securely loaded onto CNC machines for production.
  • Help with machine setup tasks, such as installing tools, aligning workpieces, and adjusting settings as directed by the CNC Operator.
  • Monitor the machining process to ensure smooth operation and assist with adjustments or troubleshooting as needed during production runs.
  • Provide regular maintenance and servicing of CNC cutting tools, including pitch cleaning, rotating knives on milling cutters, and other routine tasks to ensure optimal performance.
  • Assist in changing worn-out or damaged tools during production runs, ensuring that machine uptime is maximized.
  • Maintain a clean and organized CNC work area, following safety procedures to mitigate dust hazards. Clean the machines and surrounding areas before and after production runs.
  • Adhere to safety guidelines and practices as directed by the CNC Operator and CNC Manager, including wearing proper personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensuring safe working conditions.
  • Assist in dust and debris removal, ensuring the CNC work area remains free from obstruction and well-maintained, reducing potential safety risks.
  • Actively participate in machine training programs to gain knowledge of CNC machines, programming, and machining operations.
  • Learn how to alternate breaks with the CNC Operator to ensure continuous production, increasing overall CNC machine uptime and efficiency.
  • Under supervision, engage in practical tasks that increase proficiency in machine operation, tool servicing, and troubleshooting, with the goal of gradually assuming more responsibilities over time.
  • Work closely with the CNC Operator and CNC Manager to identify areas for improvement in machining processes and contribute to the overall efficiency of the CNC team.
  • Support the production team by ensuring that all tasks, from set-up to maintenance, are completed in a timely and efficient manner, reducing downtime and supporting increased throughput.
