Allegion•Princeton, IL
•$85,000 - $110,000•Onsite

About The Position

The CNC Applications Supervisor is an advanced role in Allegion’s Process Innovation Department, responsible for supervising the CNC Programming team and driving daily process improvements across manufacturing operations. The position leads the development, optimization, and troubleshooting of CNC programs, machine setups, and tooling strategies. It works cross-functionally with Engineering, Maintenance, Quality, Purchasing, and Operations to support safe, high-quality production, optimize production rates, reduce setup and run times, and manage tooling inventory and costs. The role covers vertical and horizontal mills, lathes, broaches, centerless grinders, and gantry-style CNC machining centers. The posting describes 10+ years of applications experience for the role and lists 7+ years of CNC setup, programming, and operating experience among the qualifications. The position is based in Princeton, Illinois. It includes training and mentoring CNC programmers and production personnel, troubleshooting complex production issues, supporting project and KPI reporting, and recommending new machinery, automation, and tooling. The Supervisor also reviews engineering changes and production documentation, supports inspection and vendor qualification, leads Lean and process-control initiatives, and maintains standardized work instructions and secure CNC program records.

Requirements

  • Two-year technical degree with certifications in CNC Programming.
  • Demonstrated leadership coordinating teams and coaching CNC machining and cutting-tool concepts.
  • At least 7 years of experience setting up, programming, and operating Fanuc-controlled CNC machining centers in a precision manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with Fanuc controls and G/M code to develop programs for Mori-Seiki, Haas, OKK, DN Solutions, and Takamaz equipment; similar equipment from other brands is acceptable.
  • Experience validating part conformity with common inspection equipment.
  • Knowledge of CAD/CAM software and its application in production part planning and execution.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and use GD&T to manufacture parts to print.
  • Basic math skills, including standard functions, basic algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.

Responsibilities

  • Train and mentor CNC programmers, machinists, operators, setup technicians, and Team Leads on programming fundamentals, tool setting, and best practices.
  • Partner with Quality, Maintenance, and Operations to troubleshoot complex production issues and provide escalation or on-call support for off-shifts as needed.
  • Monitor project milestones and provide regular status reports on department KPIs, cost-saving initiatives, and cycle-time reductions.
  • Research, justify, and recommend CNC machinery, automation, and advanced tooling; collaborate with project owners on commissioning, training, tooling, and documentation.
  • Manage on-hand tooling inventory from specification through operational consumption, including on-hand, on-order, and safety-stock levels; observe consumption and adjust stock accordingly.
  • Evaluate engineering change notices for manufacturability, cycle impact, and tooling feasibility.
  • Maintain revision histories for machining-process programs.
  • Support Purchasing and QA in auditing and qualifying new raw-material and tooling vendors.
  • Review prints, CAD/CAM models, tooling, fixtures, and materials before setup to reduce production interruptions and support first-time yield.
  • Determine reference points, cutting sequences, and tool paths, and calculate complex dimensions such as angles, radii, and curvatures.
  • Establish and optimize cutting speeds and feeds; monitor tool wear to prevent failures, improve tool life, and reduce tooling expenses.
  • Conduct dry runs and CAM simulations to prevent machine collisions.
  • Write, troubleshoot, and modify G/M code to improve cycle efficiency; maintain organized and secure CNC program backups.
  • Perform in-process and first-piece inspections using GD&T principles and precision inspection tools to verify dimensional integrity.
  • Lead Lean initiatives, including 5S, SMED, Kanban, Visual Management, and Total Productive Maintenance.
  • Implement process controls and risk mitigation using formal problem-solving tools, PFMEAs, and mistake-proofing (Poka-Yoke).
  • Create and standardize work instructions, setup sheets, CNC routings, and tooling reference materials.
  • Stay current with state-of-the-art technologies and equipment.
  • Attend training opportunities deemed necessary by management.
  • Perform other duties as required.
