About The Position

The Certified Nurse Assistant provides direct nursing care under the supervision of a VA Registered Nurse. Shall demonstrate the ability to follow directions, determine priorities, and address basic patient care needs within the scope of organizational and observational skills. Must serve on any ward or tour assigned, offering routine nursing care and personal services to assigned patients. Shall handle activities of daily living, including feeding, bathing, lifting, and turning patients, along with providing oral, nail, and hair-related hygiene care. Shall record all care provided in appropriate clinical records. The Certified Nurse Assistant observes significant physical and emotional conditions relevant to patient health status, providing timely and accurate reports to designated clinical care team members and recording all relevant information in the clinical record. Shall take vital signs, performs neurological checks, collects specimens, and prepares patients for tests, examinations, treatments, and/or surgery according to established procedures. Shall change dressings, administers enemas, provides colostomy care, performs tracheotomy care, and cares for patients in isolation and/or continuous observation status. Shall address safety needs of patients, recognizes emergency situations, takes appropriate action, and reports emergencies in a timely fashion. Shall assume responsibility for basic decisions within the scope of a CNA while away from nursing units. The Certified Nurse Assistant initiates emergency measures to control the situation.

Requirements

  • Certified nursing assistant (CNA)
  • At least two years' experience as a CNA within the last three years in one of the following: Community Living Center, Medical-Surgical, Emergency Room, Mental Health and/or Critical Care.
  • Can provide nursing care for adult medical and surgical patients.
  • Maintains current BCLS certification.
  • US citizenship
  • COVID Vaccine Certification
