About The Position

This position serves as a Relief Unit Secretary/ Restorative Aide and is an auxiliary worker of the nursing team who performs clerical duties on the nursing unit and assist in resident care as situations warrant in meeting the overall needs of the facility. The role involves answering the telephone, making appointments, relaying messages, and responding to call lights. Responsibilities include managing medical records, preparing charts for doctor visits, maintaining the nurses' station, ordering supplies, managing the resident lab calendar, interacting with families and visitors, auditing charts, entering resident weights into the computer, and staying current with State and Federal regulations pertinent to Medical Records. The position also includes assuming a resident care group, transporting residents to appointments, providing ADL care, ensuring resident safety, and performing other assigned duties within the Nursing department's mission. The role requires working every other weekend for direct resident care, and may involve participating in rehab care planning and implementation, being assigned to any unit based on staffing needs, and assisting in emergency declarations. This is a relief position, meaning the duties may vary based on staffing needs and may require assisting with direct resident care.

Requirements

  • Computer experience.
  • Knowledge of medical procedures and language.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Must have a valid State of Virginia CNA License.
  • CPR certification required upon hire or willing to obtain.

Responsibilities

  • Answer telephone, make appointments and relay messages in a courteous manner at all times.
  • Answer call light in a timely manner.
  • Thin and files any papers pulled from the chart in their respective folders in the Medical Records room.
  • Maintain required forms in the file drawers for the nurse’s use.
  • Prepare consults and monitor for delays or lack of response for scheduling.
  • Prepare charts for the doctors upon their scheduled visits.
  • Keep nurses station orderly at all times.
  • Order supplies from Central Supply for nurses.
  • Responsible for resident lab calendar.
  • Interact with families and visitors assisting when applicable.
  • Perform a monthly audit on each chart to determine what has not been completed.
  • Enter monthly weight into the computer by the designated time.
  • Keep current with State and Federal regulations pertinent to Medical Records.
  • Knowledge of policies and procedures.
  • Assuming a resident care group, transporting resident to appointments, providing ADL care as indicated.
  • Ensure safety of residents by observing and interacting with when needed.
  • Performs other duties as may be assigned that are within the Nursing department’s mission and as situations warrant in meeting the overall needs of the facility.
  • Works every other weekend as direct resident care.
  • May be asked to participate in the planning and implementing of rehab care to assigned residents.
  • May be assigned to any unit as staffing needs change with short notice.
  • May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
