About The Position

The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Division of State-Operated Specialty Care, Bureau of Civil Commitment Unit for Sex Offenders (CCUSO) is hiring a CNA/Psychiatric Security Specialist. This full-time position serves a specific high-risk population in a secure, locked setting. The schedule is either 1:00 p.m.–11:00 p.m. for four shifts or 2:00 p.m.–10:00 p.m. for five shifts, with some flexibility and an every-other-weekend rotation. Certification as a Nursing Assistant (CNA) is required, and applicants must complete a background check.

CCUSO provides secure, long-term, highly structured treatment for individuals who have completed prison terms and have been found in a separate civil trial likely to reoffend. The facility offers diagnostic, treatment, and rehabilitative services intended to address conditions that affect the likelihood of reoffending, reduce risk, and support release from confinement as quickly as possible.

Requirements

• Certification as a Nursing Assistant (CNA).
• Graduation from high school, GED, or equivalency.
• Complete a background check to be considered for the position.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct acute and chronic nursing care.
• Provide health promotion, disease prevention, and health education strategies across the lifespan.
• Treat patients through therapeutic activities.
• Provide psychological support and direction.
• Assist patients with ambulation and bathing.
• Document patient behaviors and attitudes.
• Provide general security and observation in a locked setting.
