About The Position

Caswood is looking for a CNA to work with a medically fragile Elementary student in a school on the eastside of Monroe County. The 1:1 CNA/Aide for Schools plays a critical role in providing personalized care and support to students with special needs or medical requirements within an educational setting. This position ensures the safety, comfort, and well-being of the assigned student throughout the school day, enabling them to participate fully in academic and social activities. The aide collaborates closely with teachers, school nurses, and families to implement individualized care plans and respond promptly to any health or behavioral concerns. By offering compassionate assistance with daily living activities, mobility, and medical needs, the aide fosters an inclusive and supportive learning environment. Ultimately, this role contributes to the student's overall development, independence, and success in school.

Requirements

  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification valid in the United States.
  • Experience working with children or individuals with special needs in a caregiving or educational setting.
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology and procedures relevant to student care.
  • Ability to pass background checks and comply with school district requirements.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Observational skills to monitor health and behavior changes, documenting and reporting accurately to support student well-being.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience as a 1:1 aide or paraprofessional in a school environment.
  • Training in CPR and First Aid.
  • Familiarity with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and 504 plans.
  • Additional certifications related to pediatric care or special education support.
  • Bilingual abilities to support diverse student populations.
  • Cultural sensitivity

Responsibilities

  • Provide one-on-one assistance to a student with physical, medical, or developmental challenges during the school day.
  • Assist with personal care tasks such as feeding, toileting, mobility, and medication administration as directed by healthcare professionals.
  • Monitor the student's health status and behavior, reporting any changes or concerns to school nurses and teachers promptly.
  • Support the student’s participation in classroom activities and social interactions, promoting inclusion and engagement.
  • Collaborate with educators, therapists, and family members to follow individualized education and care plans.
  • Maintain accurate records of care provided and communicate effectively with the school team.
  • Ensure a safe and clean environment for the student, adhering to all school policies and health regulations.
