About The Position

This is a Full-time Day Shift position for a CNA+4 on the 8T Mother Baby/Newborn Nursery Unit at Carolinas Medical Center (CMC). The role involves supporting patients with daily living activities, personal hygiene, taking vital signs, feeding, ambulating, maintaining room cleanliness, observing and reporting patient condition changes, orienting patients and families, assisting with clerical tasks, and managing stock supplies. The position also includes performing duties outlined in the Nurse Aide I scope and specific technical tasks such as administering ECG tests and routine venipuncture, as well as additional tasks from the Nurse Aide I+4 process including Nutrition Activities, Oxygen Therapy, Peripheral IV Fluids, Urinary Catheter, and Sterile Technique.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required for new hires on or after 7/22/2018.
  • Current listing with the DFS Nurse Aide Registry as a Nurse Aide I.
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Cardiac Life Support HealthCare Provider certification.
  • Nurse Aide I+4 Course required: E-learning and instructor-led skills practice.
  • Required observation activities.
  • Must be validated twice by an RN on each skill before they can perform independently.
  • Work requires walking, standing, sitting, lifting, reaching, bending, stretching, stooping, pushing, and pulling.
  • Must be able to lift and support the weight of 35 pounds in handling patients, medical equipment, and supplies.
  • Must speak and understand English in good understandable terms.
  • Must have manual and finger dexterity.
  • Physical abilities testing required.

Responsibilities

  • Supports patients/residents with activities of daily living.
  • Assists patients/residents with personal hygiene.
  • Takes vital signs and height and weight measurements.
  • Feeds and ambulates patients/residents according to specific procedures.
  • Maintains patient/resident's rooms in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Observes and reports changes in patient/resident conditions.
  • Orients patients/families to unit and instructs patient on safety measures.
  • Assists with clerical work such as, including answering phones, entering data and maintaining medical records.
  • Maintains stock supply items in inventory management.
  • Performs duties as outlined in the scope of Nurse Aide I (per applicable state Board of Nursing Nurse Aide I Tasks List).
  • Perform technical tasks with appropriate training such as administering a 12-Lead Electrocardiogram test and routine venipuncture.
  • Trained in the following additional tasks, as outlined by the applicable state Board of Nursing (NCBON) Nurse Aide I+4 process: Nutrition Activities, Oxygen Therapy, Peripheral IV Fluids, Urinary Catheter, Sterile Technique (Additional requirement per NCBON for Peripheral IV and Urinary Catheter skills)
