About The Position

Develop, maintain, and improve coordinate measuring machine (CMM) programs and dimensional inspection processes. Ensure measurement systems are accurate, repeatable, and efficient to support production, quality, and new product launches. Own CMM programming standards, inspection strategies, and operator-driven inspection capabilities, collaborating with Engineering, Production, Supply Chain, and Quality to reduce inspection bottlenecks and improve workflow. The role includes creating and maintaining CMM programs and a controlled program library; defining inspection schedules and strategies; developing operator-friendly inspection routines and training operators; supporting first article inspections, capability studies, and new-product inspection planning; and analyzing dimensional data to support root-cause investigations and corrective actions. It also maintains inspection reporting and data-analysis tools, tracks dimensional trends and inspection performance, and supports quality systems, continuous improvement, supplier quality, Lean initiatives, and employee cross-training. The position requires an associate degree in a related technical field or equivalent hands-on experience. Three to five years of CMM programming experience is preferred, along with experience using PC-DMIS or equivalent software, knowledge of GD&T and engineering drawings, and the ability to create, validate, troubleshoot, and improve CMM programs. The work environment includes an office and manufacturing complex. The role involves regular walking, standing, talking, hearing, and hand use; noise is usually moderate and occasionally loud. The employee must be able to lift 50 pounds occasionally without assistance and 300 pounds with mechanical assistance.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in Manufacturing Technology, Engineering Technology, Metrology, or a related field, or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • Strong experience with PC-DMIS or equivalent software.
  • Solid understanding of GD&T and engineering drawings.
  • Ability to create, validate, troubleshoot, and improve CMM programs.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.
  • Comfort using digital tools and reporting systems.
  • Analytical skills to collect, analyze, and interpret data and identify trends and improvement opportunities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for reporting, training, and collaboration.
  • Attention to detail in reviewing processes, products, and documentation for accuracy and compliance.
  • Organizational skills to manage multiple tasks, prioritize work, and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to move within an office and manufacturing complex; regularly use hands, talk, hear, walk, and stand for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds occasionally without assistance and 300 pounds with mechanical assistance.

Nice To Haves

  • Three to five years of CMM programming experience.

Responsibilities

  • Create, validate, improve, and maintain CMM programs for accurate and efficient inspections.
  • Establish and follow standard programming methods, templates, reporting practices, and revision controls; maintain an organized, controlled program library.
  • Improve program efficiency and inspection cycle times while maintaining accuracy; standardize fixturing and measurement approaches; support CAD-based and offline programming as needed.
  • Develop inspection schedules based on product risk, process capability, and quality history; define inspection frequencies and sampling requirements.
  • Work with Engineering and Production to identify critical product characteristics and establish escalation paths for dimensional issues.
  • Develop operator-friendly inspection routines, instructions, and fixturing; train and qualify operators to run approved programs; maintain qualification records and safeguards against inspection errors.
  • Transition appropriate routine inspections to trained operators when practical.
  • Perform or support first article inspections, capability studies, investigations, and inspection planning for new products, engineering changes, and process improvements.
  • Evaluate measurement methods, equipment, and fixturing; apply GD&T principles in inspection planning and review of results.
  • Analyze dimensional data and trends, partner with relevant teams to identify root causes and corrective actions, and verify corrective-action effectiveness.
  • Maintain inspection reporting and data-analysis tools, automate collection and reporting where practical, and track dimensional trends and inspection performance.
  • Support quality system requirements, continuous improvement, corrective actions, supplier quality efforts, employee cross-training, and supplier dimensional investigations.
