About The Position

Ohio Ordnance Works Inc. is hiring a CMM Programmer II to join its quality-focused manufacturing team. The role supports the company’s products for retail, law enforcement, and government agencies, both domestic and foreign. This full-time position works Monday through Thursday on first shift, with 10-hour days, in a manufacturing environment across a 10-acre campus. The CMM Programmer II independently develops, validates, and optimizes inspection programs using Hexagon Coordinate Measuring Machines and PC-DMIS software. The position serves as a technical resource to Quality, Engineering, and Manufacturing teams, ensuring inspection methods accurately verify product conformance while supporting continuous improvement. The role also helps establish inspection best practices, improve measurement processes, and mentor junior inspection personnel.

Requirements

At least 5 years of experience programming and operating Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs) in a manufacturing environment.
At least 3 years of experience utilizing PC-DMIS software for program development and inspection execution.
Experience programming and operating Hexagon CMM equipment.
Strong understanding and practical application of GD&T per ASME Y14.5 standards.
Strong math and problem-solving skills.
Ability to interpret engineering drawings, CAD models, specifications, and customer requirements.
Experience using precision measurement equipment, including micrometers, calipers, bore gages, height gages, and optical measurement systems.
Ability to analyze dimensional data and generate detailed inspection reports.
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills related to measurement and manufacturing processes.

Nice To Haves

At least 7 years of experience in manufacturing quality, dimensional inspection, or metrology.
Associate degree or technical certification in Manufacturing Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Quality Assurance, or a related field.
Formal training or certification in PC-DMIS programming.
ASQ certifications such as CQI, CQT, CQE, or comparable quality-related credentials.
Experience supporting government, defense, aerospace, automotive, or firearms manufacturing programs.
Knowledge of statistical process control (SPC) and measurement system analysis (MSA).
Familiarity with ISO 9001, AS9100, or other regulated quality management systems.
Experience developing inspection fixtures and validating measurement methods.
Prior experience mentoring junior programmers, inspectors, or technicians.
Knowledge of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies.

Responsibilities

Program, validate, troubleshoot, and optimize inspection routines using PC-DMIS software on Hexagon CMM platforms.
Develop inspection strategies from engineering drawings, CAD models, GD&T requirements, and customer specifications.
Independently create and maintain CMM programs for new and existing products while ensuring measurement repeatability and reproducibility.
Analyze engineering drawings and apply advanced GD&T principles to establish robust inspection methods.
Generate and maintain inspection reports, FAIRs, capability studies, and dimensional analysis documentation.
Perform complex dimensional inspections to verify parts meet design tolerances.
Support root cause investigations related to dimensional nonconformances and manufacturing process variation.
Recommend and implement improvements to inspection plans, programming methods, fixturing, and measurement techniques.
Develop and maintain standardized programming practices and documentation for inspection processes.
Maintain, calibrate, and update CMM equipment and software.
Assist in gauge selection, fixture development, and measurement system evaluations.
Support internal and external audits by providing inspection data, reports, and technical expertise.
Train, mentor, and provide guidance to CMM operators, inspectors, and junior programmers.
Assist with customer inspections, source inspections, and technical discussions.
Support continuous improvement initiatives.
