About The Position

Magellan Aerospace, New York has an exciting new opportunity for an Aerospace CMM Operator. The purpose of this position is to be responsible for performing high-precision dimensional inspections of aerospace components using Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM). The successful incumbent will ensure that all parts meet stringent aerospace standards, customer specifications, and regulatory requirements. The operator supports quality assurance by generating accurate inspection data, maintaining traceability, and contributing to continuous improvement in a highly regulated environment. The salary range for this position is $32 to $38 per hour. This role requires an afternoon/evening shift, with a start time of either 3:00 PM or 4:00 PM and an end time of 11:00 PM or 12:00 AM.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification or associate degree preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience operating CMM equipment in an aerospace or precision manufacturing environment.
  • Strong understanding of GD&T and ability to apply it to complex aerospace parts.
  • Experience interpreting detailed aerospace drawings and CAD data.
  • Knowledge of AS9100 quality management systems and AS9102 FAI requirements.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy and compliance.
  • Good communication and documentation skills.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and work in a production environment.
  • Ability to lift and position parts and fixtures (weight varies).
  • Strong visual acuity for precision inspection work.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and program CMM equipment to inspect complex aerospace components (e.g., turbine parts, structural components, precision machined parts).
  • Develop, validate, and optimize CMM programs using software such as PC-DMIS.
  • Interpret aerospace engineering drawings, CAD models, and GD&T in accordance with ASME Y14.5 standards.
  • Perform First Article Inspection (FAI) in compliance with AS9102 requirements.
  • Conduct in-process and final inspections to ensure adherence to tight tolerances and specifications.
  • Generate detailed inspection reports and maintain accurate documentation for full traceability.
  • Identify non-conformances and support root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Ensure compliance with aerospace quality standards such as AS9100 and customer-specific requirements.
  • Calibrate and maintain CMM equipment in accordance with internal procedures and audit requirements.
  • Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams to resolve dimensional issues.
  • Participate in internal and external audits, including customer and regulatory audits.
