Spring 2027: CMF Industrial Design Co-op (January through June)
About The Position
The CMF (Color, Material & Finish) Industrial Design Co-op is a full-time, onsite early-talent position based in Needham, Massachusetts, running from January through June 2027. The co-op will report to the CMF Senior Team and Design Directors and collaborate with global teams across the Shark and Ninja brands, as well as Engineering, Marketing, Creative, Compliance, APAC manufacturing teams, and suppliers to deliver projects on time and within budget. The role supports color, material, and finish development for new products; maintains color specifications and material-library samples; contributes to retailer-targeted palettes and consumer-trend reports; and assists with innovative product concepts and related design work. The position offers exposure to manufacturing processes and product development. Applicants must provide work samples in addition to a resume.
Requirements
- Be a current student in a related bachelor's or master's program, or have graduated from such a program within the past year.
- Be able to work full-time, 40 hours per week, onsite five days per week in Needham, Massachusetts.
- Have strong skill and knowledge in Adobe Suite, including Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop.
- Have an interest in color communication toward international standards.
- Have familiarity and experience with Pantone, NCS, SPI, YickSang, Mold-Tech, or similar standards and tools.
- Have excellent rendering quality using KeyShot and/or Photoshop.
- Provide samples of work in addition to a resume; samples may be linked in the resume or added as a cover letter.
Responsibilities
- Assist in managing CMF development for new products.
- Create, track, and maintain color specifications (ID SPECS).
- Develop color-palette proposals targeted to different retailers.
- Collect, organize, and archive supplier CMF samples in a material library.
- Track consumer trends and contribute to trend reports.
- Develop an understanding of manufacturing processes and well-crafted products.
- Assist in developing and implementing complex and innovative concepts.
- Interact daily with the APAC manufacturing team and suppliers to discuss design.
- Work closely with the Compliance team.
- Support UI design, icon design, and rating/warning label creation.
