About The Position
Responsible for hands-on roles for students attending college and enrolled in a healthcare program. Southern Illinois Healthcare (SIH) offers experiential learning opportunities for students at every stage of career development. As a student at SIH, you will see first-hand how the work we are doing supports OUR MISSION: to improve the health and well-being of all the people in the communities we serve. The SIH Scholarship Program brings together college scholarship money with hands-on work opportunities. Qualified applicants are eligible for money to cover tuition, lab fees, books, and educational supplies. The SIH Phlebotomy Program allows you to begin working in as few as nine weeks!
Requirements
- Enrolled in a college clinical program in a healthcare field. Examples would include Nursing, Imaging, Respiratory Therapy, Medical Lab Tech, Surgical Tech, Pre-Med, Social Work, etc.
- Caring and kind
- Cheerful and friendly
- Willing to be hands-on with patients
- Willing to do personal care tasks (washing, toileting, etc.)
- Able to follow instructions and procedures
- Able to work in a team but use their own initiate.
- Strong communication skills, including listening.
- Organizational skills.
Responsibilities
- helping patients to move around.
- monitoring patients and performing basic health checks
- making patients feel comfortable.
- washing and dressing patients.
- serving meals and helping to feed patients.
- cleaning and restocking rooms
- perform health checks.
- take blood samples.
- process lab samples
- sterilize equipment.
- restock rooms.
- undertake health promotion and education work.
- act as a receptionist
- schedule appointments
