About The Position

The CMA (Certified Medication Aide) is responsible for administering medications to residents as ordered by the attending physician, under the direction of the attending physician, the nurse supervisor or charge nurse, and the Director of Nursing Services. This administration must comply with established nursing standards, facility policies and procedures, and state requirements. The role also involves providing direct care to residents according to their individualized care plan. The position requires independent judgment and discretion in performing tasks beyond routine resident care. Maintaining a clean and safe environment is crucial. As per state regulations and required training/certification, the CMA administers or assists with self-administration of medication and treatments. They observe resident responses to treatments, are aware of potential medication interactions and side effects, and report any occurrences to their supervisor. Adherence to community infection control policies and procedures is mandatory. Daily documentation in resident records, including necessary forms, charts, and reports, is required according to state regulations. The CMA observes and documents the health and emotional condition of each resident, promptly reporting any changes to the supervisor. They must also follow facility procedures for residents who self-administer medications, monitoring and documenting all aspects of this process. Understanding and following medication policies and procedures is essential. The role includes receiving resident reports and providing direct resident care.

Requirements

  • Must possess, as a minimum, a high school education or its equivalent.
  • Must be a licensed Certified Medication Aide having successfully completed a state approved training program and any necessary examination(s) in accordance with laws of this State.
  • Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
  • Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the public.
  • Must have patience, tact, a cheerful disposition, and enthusiasm, as well as the willingness to handle difficult residents.
  • Must provide documentation of certification upon application for the position.

Nice To Haves

  • Prefer prior experience in AL or SNU.
  • Prefer prior experience as a certified medication aide for a least 1 year.

Responsibilities

  • Administering medications to residents as ordered by the attending physician.
  • Providing direct care to residents following the individualized care plan.
  • Maintaining a clean, safe environment in the community.
  • Administering or assisting with self-administration of medication and treatments as prescribed by the health care provider.
  • Observing resident’s response to existing treatment plan, medication interactions, and side effects, and notifying supervisor.
  • Adhering to community infection control policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for daily documentation in resident records according to state regulations.
  • Observing and documenting the health and emotional condition of each resident, promptly reporting all changes to the supervisor.
  • Following the facility’s procedures allowing residents to self-administer his or her medications, and monitoring and documenting all aspects of such self-administering.
  • Exhibiting understanding of and following medication policies and procedures.
  • Receiving report on all residents.
  • Providing direct resident care.
