About The Position

The CMA (Certified Medication Aide) is responsible for administering medications to residents as ordered by their physician, under the supervision of the nurse supervisor or charge nurse, and the Director of Nursing Services. This role adheres to established nursing standards and facility policies. The position also involves providing direct care to residents according to their individualized care plans, maintaining a clean and safe environment, and documenting resident information as required by state regulations. The CMA observes resident responses to treatments, notes potential medication interactions or side effects, and reports any changes in a resident's health or emotional condition to their supervisor. They also follow facility procedures for residents who self-administer medication and maintain an understanding of medication policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Must possess, as a minimum, a high school education or its equivalent.
  • Must be a licensed Certified Medication Aide having successfully completed a state approved training program and any necessary examination(s) in accordance with laws of this State.
  • Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
  • Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the public.
  • Must have patience, tact, a cheerful disposition, and enthusiasm, as well as the willingness to handle difficult residents.
  • Must provide documentation of certification upon application for the position.

Nice To Haves

  • Prefer prior experience in AL or SNU.
  • Prefer prior experience as a certified medication aide for a least 1 year.

Responsibilities

  • Administering medications to residents as ordered by the attending physician.
  • Providing direct care to residents following the individualized care plan.
  • Maintaining a clean, safe environment in the community.
  • Administering or assisting with self-administration of medication and treatments as prescribed by the health care provider.
  • Observing resident’s response to existing treatment plan, medication interactions, and side effects, and notifying supervisor.
  • Adhering to community infection control policies and procedures.
  • Daily documentation in resident records according to state regulations.
  • Observing and documenting the health and emotional condition of each resident, promptly reporting all changes to the supervisor.
  • Following facility’s procedures allowing residents to self-administer medication and monitoring/documenting all aspects of such self-administering.
  • Exhibiting understanding of and following medication policies and procedures.
  • Receiving report on all residents.
  • Providing direct resident care.
