About The Position

The CMA (Certified Medication Aide) is responsible for administering medications to residents as ordered by the attending physician, under the direction of the attending physician, the nurse supervisor or charge nurse, and the Director of Nursing Services. This role ensures medication administration aligns with established nursing standards, facility policies, and state requirements. The position also involves providing direct care to residents according to their individualized care plans, maintaining a safe and clean environment, and documenting resident health and emotional conditions. The CMA must exhibit understanding of and adhere to medication policies and procedures, receive resident reports, and provide direct resident care.

Requirements

  • Must possess, as a minimum, a high school education or its equivalent.
  • Must be a licensed Certified Medication Aide having successfully completed a state approved training program and any necessary examination(s) in accordance with laws of this State.
  • Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
  • Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the public.
  • Must have patience, tact, a cheerful disposition, and enthusiasm, as well as the willingness to handle difficult residents.
  • Must provide documentation of certification upon application for the position.

Nice To Haves

  • Prefer prior experience in AL or SNU.
  • Prefer prior experience as a certified medication aide for a least 1 year.

Responsibilities

  • Administering medications to residents as ordered by the attending physician.
  • Providing direct care to residents following the individualized care plan.
  • Maintaining a clean, safe environment in the community.
  • Administering or assisting with self-administration of medication and treatments as prescribed by the health care provider.
  • Observing resident’s response to existing treatment plan, medication interactions, and side effects, and notifying supervisor.
  • Adhering to community infection control policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for daily documentation in resident records according to state regulations.
  • Observing and documenting the health and emotional condition of each resident, promptly reporting all changes to the supervisor.
  • Following facility’s procedures allowing residents to self-administer their medications and monitoring/documenting all aspects of such self-administering.
  • Receiving report on all residents.
  • Providing direct resident care.
