The CMA (Certified Medication Aide) is responsible for administering medications to residents as ordered by the attending physician, under the direction of the attending physician, the nurse supervisor or charge nurse, and the Director of Nursing Services. This role ensures medication administration adheres to established nursing standards, facility policies, procedures, and state requirements. Additionally, the CMA provides direct care to residents following their individualized care plans. The position involves exercising independent judgment in personnel tasks, maintaining a clean and safe environment, observing residents' responses to treatment plans, being aware of medication interactions and side effects, and promptly reporting changes to supervisors. Daily documentation in resident records, adherence to infection control policies, and assisting residents with self-administration of medication are also key aspects of this role.
