About The Position

Boston Public Schools seeks a highly qualified and knowledgeable Cluster Substitute Teacher to serve at a single school, covering teacher absences of ten days or fewer per absence. Assignments may change daily. The position is an anticipated vacancy expected by 11/1/2026; the current incumbent may rescind their retirement, leave, or resignation until that date, so the hire will not be confirmed until the position is vacated. If it is not vacant by the start of the school year, the hire may begin as a Long-Term Substitute. The teacher supports BPS’s vision of high expectations for achievement, equal access to high-quality instruction, academic proficiency for all students, and closing achievement gaps. The role calls for ambitious learning goals, engaging and equitable instruction, respect for students’ diverse backgrounds, family engagement, and ongoing reflection and collaboration. The required qualifications include an undergraduate college or university degree, authorization to work in the United States by the first day of employment, successful completion of a screening interview with the BPS Office of Human Resources, and passing a CORI/SORI criminal background check. Preferred qualifications include a Massachusetts teaching license in the assigned content and grade level (including an SEI Endorsement if applicable), experience working with children or young adults in a school or community setting, urban-school teaching experience, and fluency in one of BPS’s official languages.
