As the Clubs Editor & Content Writer, you will play an important role in furthering our mission by ensuring all written content produced for Awana Clubs curriculum and related resources is clear, accurate, engaging, and aligned with our theological convictions and brand standards. This role serves as a primary steward of editorial quality and voice across Awana Clubs curriculum materials, leader resources, and supporting content. The Clubs Editor & Content Writer will uphold the organization’s editorial and brand style guide, demonstrating exceptional attention to detail across complex, multi-component materials while providing expert copyediting and proofreading support and contributing original content as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Education, Theology, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 4 years of professional copyediting or editorial experience; experience in curriculum, publishing, or ministry content strongly preferred.
  • Exceptional command of English grammar, usage, and editorial standards.
  • Experience editing curriculum, educational materials, or content designed for children, leaders, or families.
  • Strong understanding of how to adapt content for multiple audiences (children, leaders, families).
  • Demonstrated ability to review and handle theological content with accuracy and discernment.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Experience working with collaborative editing tools (Google Workspace required).
  • Familiarity with Awana Clubs, curriculum, and ministry approach is strongly preferred, with preference given to candidates who have actively served in a leadership or volunteer role within an Awana Club setting.
  • Experience in Christian publishing, ministry environments, or church-based content strongly preferred.
  • Eligibility to work in the United States is required; this position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.
  • Must be a born-again Christian.
  • Must have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
  • Must be in agreement with the Awana Doctrinal Statement.
  • Must be in fellowship with the body of Christ through a local church.
  • Regularly engages in reading the Holy Bible as a guide and standard for living.

Responsibilities

  • Edit and proofread Clubs curriculum materials, including child handbooks, leader guides, teaching resources, Scripture memory materials, and family resources.
  • Review supporting content such as parent resources, activities, and supplemental ministry tools.
  • Ensure content is clear, accurate, age-appropriate, and aligned with Awana’s theological standards, voice, and brand guidelines.
  • Verify Scripture references, doctrinal accuracy, and ministry terminology.
  • Maintain consistency in tone, structure, and quality across content for children, leaders, and families.
  • Write and revise curriculum content for children, leaders, and families in partnership with the Clubs curriculum team.
  • Support the development, updating, and maintenance of curriculum products and ministry resources.
  • Adapt content for print, digital, and in-club formats.
  • Improve content clarity, engagement, and usability for diverse age groups and audiences.
  • Ensure all content aligns with Awana’s Statement of Faith, brand standards, and audience needs.
  • Partner with curriculum developers, designers, writers, and subject-matter experts to ensure content quality and production readiness.
  • Provide clear, constructive editorial feedback to strengthen content and support team consistency.
  • Collaborate across teams to ensure accuracy, alignment, and timely delivery of materials.
  • Ensure curriculum content supports Awana’s discipleship goals and reflects its Statement of Faith.
  • Contribute to ongoing curriculum evaluation, improvement, and consistency across Clubs products.
  • Help maintain alignment across the full Clubs experience for children, leaders, and families.
  • Demonstrate Awana’s values in all interactions and work responsibilities.
  • Support special projects and evolving ministry needs as assigned.
  • Pursue ongoing professional growth in editing, theology, curriculum development, and ministry best practices.
