About The Position

The Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for Boys & Girls Clubs of North Central Illinois' South Elgin Clubhouse. This role performs daily cleaning and sanitation routines, basic facility & fleet upkeep, and ensures spaces are consistently prepared for youth programming and staff operations. The Custodian reports to the Facilities & Fleet Coordinator.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Authorized to work in the United States
  • Ability to pass a background check and fingerprinting
  • Reliable transportation to travel to South Elgin Clubhouse
  • Willingness to perform cleaning and custodial duties
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively across two sites
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to cleanliness and safety standards
  • Flexibility to occasionally travel between locations as required
  • Ability to perform physical tasks throughout facilities, stand for extended periods, and lift up to 50 pounds

Nice To Haves

  • Prior custodial, janitorial, or facilities support experience preferred
  • Familiarity with commercial cleaning equipment and products a plus
  • Experience operating an electric floor buffer a plus

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily cleaning and sanitation of clubhouse interiors including common areas, restrooms, classrooms, gymnasiums, hallways, and entryways
  • Sweep, mop, vacuum, and clean all assigned areas according to established schedules and standards
  • Clean and sanitize restrooms and high-touch surfaces throughout each shift
  • Empty trash and recycling receptacles and replace liners as needed
  • Ensure cleaning products and equipment are used safely and stored properly
  • Clean and maintain building exteriors including entrances, walkways, and exterior-facing surfaces as assigned
  • Weekly cleaning & vacuuming of fleet vehicles
  • Complete basic upkeep tasks such as replacing light bulbs, wiping down surfaces, and supporting minor repairs as directed
  • Monitor supply levels and notify the Facilities & Fleet Coordinator when cleaning materials need to be replenished
  • Report facility damage, safety concerns, or maintenance issues to the Coordinator promptly
  • Support setup and breakdown of spaces for programming, events, or special activities as directed
  • Ensure facilities are clean, safe, and in compliance with safety standards at all times
  • Complete additional cleaning or facility tasks as assigned by the Facilities & Fleet Coordinator
  • Occasional travel for other job-related tasks as needed using cargo van provided by BGCNCIL.
