About The Position

Responsible for facilitating the coordination and development of various initiatives and projects within the Office of Spiritual Development (OSD). The Club Sports Ministry Coordinator II for LU Shepherd supports the Director of LU Shepherd to Athletics in coordinating the development of ministry initiatives that support the holistic spiritual formation of Liberty University student athletes for Club Sports. The role provides support including program development, leadership of Athletic Shepherds (graduate students), and collaborative ministry oversight with LU’s Club Sports Department. The Club Sports Ministry Coordinator II plays a key role in advancing the mission of the Office of Spiritual Development (OSD) by fostering an intentional spiritual development pathway, cultivating relationships across club sports athletic teams and staff, and coordinating care for student-athletes.

Requirements

  • Four-year college degree or the equivalent.
  • 2-3 years+ experience in professional training
  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing to convey clear, well-articulated information.
  • Ability to understand, speak, and write English in order to convey messages and correspond in an articulate and professional manner.
  • Possess public communication skills that allow professional representation of Liberty University to a variety of business and community customers and associates.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Excellent computer skills.
  • Intuitively able to reason, analyze information and events, and apply judgment in order to solve problems of both a routine and complex nature.
  • Proof of a valid driver’s license, an acceptable DMV record, LU Driving Approval, and liability insurance is required when driving in the performance of the employee’s position.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Director of LU Shepherd to Athletics with planning, coordination, and implementation of spiritual formation and ministry initiatives for club sports student-athletes.
  • Oversee designated ministry programs, events, and rhythms that promote spiritual growth, biblical engagement, and community among club sports student-athletes.
  • Contribute to the ongoing evaluation and development of club sports ministry initiatives.
  • Assist with the recruitment, onboarding, training, and evaluation of Athletic Shepherds (graduate students) in coordination with the Director.
  • Provide ongoing support to the graduate students serving as Athletic Shepherds.
  • Help build and maintain positive relationships within the Club Sports Department, including with coaches, staff, and students.
  • Provide pastoral care, spiritual guidance, and encouragement to student-athletes, including availability for hospital visits, crisis response, and times of significant need.
  • Support communication and coordination related to athletic student concerns involving university offices (e.g., Chancellor’s Office, International Student Office).
  • Strictly adheres to Liberty University policies, representing the University in an exemplary manner.
  • Works effectively as a team member, embracing and fostering LU’s Christian model and Mission – Training Champions for Christ.
