About The Position

The Club Custodian Lead (CCL) is part of the club’s leadership team and helps maintain a clean, safe, and well-maintained environment for members. The role supports the signature In-Shape Member Experience while monitoring club cleanliness, safety, and maintenance standards, and offers an opportunity to begin a leadership career in the fitness industry. The CCL performs and oversees cleaning and disinfection duties, supports daily upkeep of club amenities, and maintains cleanliness records. The role also leads training and coaching for Club Custodians, helps coordinate staffing coverage, reviews cleaning procedures and schedules, verifies completion of housekeeping standards, and partners with club management on supply inventory. Where applicable, the CCL may monitor bodies of water and enforce related rules. The position requires a flexible, positive approach to member service and the ability to work overnight shifts, weekends, and holidays. Work involves frequent movement throughout indoor club facilities and outdoor areas, use of tools and equipment, exposure to cleaning and pool chemicals and other environmental conditions, and lifting or moving items weighing up to 50 pounds.

Requirements

Basic fitness experience and a passion for fitness.
Effectively communicate in English, verbally and in writing.
Ability to lead, coach, and mentor team members to achieve high standards of cleanliness, safety, and member service.
Knowledge of cleaning chemicals.
Flexible and positive attitude in meeting and exceeding member expectations.
Ability to work under pressure and time constraints while displaying positive behavior in member interactions.
Willingness and ability to work a flexible shift, including overnight shifts, weekends, and holidays.
Current CPR certification or ability to pass CPR certification within the first 30 days of hire.
First Aid Training is required only at clubs with Pool Slides.

Responsibilities

Maintain a safe environment by correctly implementing safety policies and procedures.
Use specialized tools to perform deep cleaning and disinfection duties.
Follow and adhere to the In-Shape Clean Approach.
Maintain cleanliness records using Job Cards and communication logs.
Assist with daily upkeep of club amenities.
Support a consistent member experience and help build the club’s community of members.
Where applicable, monitor bodies of water as needed and enforce rules.
Attend and participate in required meetings and training.
Lead hands-on floor training for new Club Custodians covering cleaning zones, chemical mixing stations, Clean Approach Binder (CAB) procedures, and cleaning cards; retrain existing team members as needed.
Coach, mentor, and support Club Custodian team members to improve skills, performance, and accountability.
Communicate team feedback, concerns, and opportunities to the General Manager and Assistant General Manager (AGM).
Support the General Manager with scheduling and proactively address coverage needs arising from absences or operational demands.
Identify positive performance trends and opportunities to improve housekeeping efficiency and service quality.
Conduct daily walk-throughs to support efficient housekeeping operations, cleanliness standards, and member satisfaction.
Review the CAB daily; develop and adjust weekly cleaning schedules; and verify zone completion, locker room checklists, and pool testing documentation.
Partner with the General Manager and AGM to maintain appropriate inventory of cleaning supplies and operational materials.
Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned to support overall club operations.
