About The Position

The Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) organization, Intelligence Systems portfolio, is seeking a Cloud Solution Architect (Experienced, Senior or Lead) to join our Mission Operations team in Herndon, VA. Our team focuses on delivering complex solutions in some of the most challenging environments on Earth. We provide support for our Mission Operations Portfolio area which design, build, test, deploy, operate, and maintain a wide variety of mission critical platforms and systems for commercial and government customers. This Cloud Engineer position performs cloud design, architecture, automated buildouts, monitoring, and enhancements to meet business requirements. This position is critical to the success of a new greenfield development effort that will be hosted on the cloud. The position will be assisting with deploying cloud resources with automation and ensuring security, reliability, and performance requirements are met/exceeded.

Requirements

  • Active TS/SCI U.S. Security Clearance and current FSP (Full Scope Polygraph) (U.S. Citizenship Required)
  • 3+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience (Level 3)
  • 3+ years of experience in Cloud Engineering
  • Experience with IaC tooling and automation
  • Experience designing cloud solutions
  • Must meet U.S. export control compliance requirements. A “U.S. Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. §120.62 is required. “U.S. Person” includes U.S. Citizen, U.S. National, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

  • Associate degree or higher in a relevant field

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain cloud infrastructure to meet availability, scalability, and performance requirements
  • Implement and manage infrastructure as code (IaC) using tools
  • Harden cloud security and manage identity/access (IAM, least privilege, key/secret management)
  • Implement observability: logging, metrics, tracing, alerts, and dashboards (Prometheus/Grafana, CloudWatch)
  • Architect and operate resilient network and compute patterns (VPCs, load balancers, autoscaling, multi‑AZ)
  • Optimize cost and capacity: tagging, rightsizing, budget alerts, and capacity planning
  • Implement backup, DR, and incident response processes; conduct postmortems and corrective actions
  • Manage container platforms and orchestration (Kubernetes/EKS)
  • Produce and maintain runbooks, documentation, and automation to enable developer self‑service
  • Maintaining accurate documentation of system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps
  • Participating in the planning and implementation of new systems, upgrades, and migrations, ensuring compatibility and adherence to best practices
  • Staying up to date with the latest technologies, industry trends, and security practices, and continuously improving skills and knowledge
