The Cloud Software Engineer will develop, maintain, and enhance complex and diverse Big-Data Cloud systems based upon documented requirements. This role contributes to all stages of back-end processing, analyzing, and indexing, providing expertise in Cloud Computing, including implementing Java applications, Distributed Computing, Information Retrieval (IR), and Object Oriented Design. The engineer will work independently or as part of a team, review and test software components for adherence to design requirements, document test results, and resolve software problem reports. The position utilizes software development and software design methodologies appropriate to the development environment and provides specific input to software components of a system design in place of new development, including hardware/software trade-offs, software reuse, use of Commercial Off-the-shelf (COTS)/Government Off-the shelf (GOTS) and requirements analysis and synthesis from system level to individual software components. Due to federal contract requirements, United States Citizenship and position appropriate security clearance is required (e.g., Active TS/SCI security clearance with customer appropriate polygraph).

Requirements

  • TS/SCI with Agency Appropriate Polygraph
  • Twelve (12) years experience as a Cloud Software Engineer in programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity is required.
  • Experience with open source (NoSQL) products that support highly distributed massively parallel computation such as Hbase, CloudBase/Acumulo, Big Table, Docker, and Kubernetes.
  • Five (5) years experience developing software for Windows (2000, 2003, XP, Vista), or UNIX/Linux (Redhat versions 3-5) operating systems.
  • Six (6) years experience developing software with high level languages such as Java, C, C++.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline from an accredited college or university is required.
  • Five (5) years of additional Cloud Software Engineer experience may be substituted for a Bachelor’s degree.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and enhance complex and diverse Big-Data Cloud systems based upon documented requirements.
  • Contribute to all stages of back-end processing, analyzing, and indexing.
  • Provide expertise in Cloud Computing, including implementing Java applications, Distributed Computing, Information Retrieval (IR), and Object Oriented Design.
  • Work independently or as part of a team.
  • Review and test software components for adherence to the design requirements and document test results.
  • Resolve software problem reports.
  • Utilizes software development and software design methodologies appropriate to the development environment.
  • Provide specific input to software components of a system design in place of new development, to include hardware/software trade-offs, software reuse, use of Commercial Off-the-shelf (COTS)/Government Off-the shelf (GOTS) and requirements analysis and synthesis from system level to individual software components.
  • Modify existing software to correct errors, to adapt to new hardware, or to improve its performance
  • Design and code (e.g. Java, C, C#) new software or modify existing software to add new features
  • Develop software solutions by analyzing system performance standards, confer with users or system engineers; analyze systems flow, data usage and work processes; and investigate problem areas
  • Analyze user requirements to derive software design and performance requirements.
  • Develop or implement algorithms to meet or exceed system performance and functional standards
  • Integrate existing software into new or modified systems or operating environments, to include cloud technologies
  • Debug existing software and correct defects
  • Confer with system engineers and/or hardware engineers to derive software requirements and to obtain information on project limitations and capabilities, performance requirements and interfaces
  • Serve as the team lead at the level appropriate to the software development process being used on any particular project
  • Serve as the technical lead of multiple software teams
  • Oversee one or more software development teams and ensure the work is completed in accordance with the constraints of the software development process being used on any particular project
