About The Position

SMX is hiring Cloud Subject Matter Experts at junior, mid, and senior levels to support secure, scalable multi-cloud infrastructure and services for business- and mission-critical systems for the United States Air Force. The role collaborates with Government personnel, project managers, engineers, security professionals, development teams, and infrastructure services to define, establish, and communicate application and data architecture standards, policies, and direction. It identifies and explains optimal cloud solutions and supports technical discussions among customers, cloud providers, vendors, stakeholders, and DoD agencies. The Cloud SME advises clients on implementing native, hybrid, and multi-cloud environments, infrastructure, security, edge computing, zero trust, and enterprise or managed services. The position applies direct industry experience to provide technical, managerial, and administrative direction for problem definition, analysis, requirements development, and implementation in complex cloud environments. It helps identify IT, engineering, and business-process deficiencies, participates in strategy sessions, strategic assessments, and design reviews, and guides other professionals while coordinating resolution of highly complex problems. The role leads assessment, design, and execution of application migrations from on-premise or legacy environments to the Cloud One platform, ensuring security and operational compliance. It supports customers from market research through high-level design, researches and compares cloud services, builds or analyzes use cases, develops or analyzes high-level reference architectures, and presents technical recommendations to leadership. The position also identifies cloud solutions that support governance and policy-making and leads technical discussions with customers, partners, and leadership.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree or equivalent certification, plus the stated experience for the applicable level: 4–7 years for mid-level, 10 years for senior-level, or 15 years for SME-level.
At least 4 years of technical cloud experience.
Active Secret security clearance.
Understanding of cloud architectures and native services for compute, storage, networking, security, and automation.
Strong cloud ecosystem knowledge and technical background.
Demonstrated ability to lead enterprise-scale system integrations and automation projects.
Ability to clearly communicate complex problems and solutions in a simple, logical, and impactful manner.
Familiarity with cloud governance tools such as Xacta and eMASS, and experience supporting Authority to Operate (ATO) processes.
Understanding of C4I systems.
Knowledge of Windows operating environments.
Familiarity with RMF, NIST 800-53, STIGs, and cloud security principles.
Familiarity with and ability to distinguish PaaS, IaaS, and SaaS models.

Nice To Haves

Prior experience supporting United States Air Force cloud programs, including AWS GovCloud.
Experience with modern DevSecOps concepts.
Cloud certification(s).
DoD 8570-compliant certification, such as CompTIA Security+.

Responsibilities

Lead assessment, design, and execution of application migrations from on-premise or legacy environments to the Cloud One platform, ensuring compliance with security and operational standards.
Demonstrate technical expertise in cloud technologies, configurations, and environments, including hybrid, native, multi-cloud, and on-premise environments.
Support customers, from market research through high-level design considerations.
Conduct cloud analysis and research, product building, presentations, and delivery; compare cloud services and provide technical expertise and recommendations to leadership.
Identify best-in-breed cloud solutions that support governance and policy-making for leadership.
Build and/or analyze use cases.
Analyze and/or develop high-level reference architectures.
Lead technical discussions in customer and partner engagements and leadership meetings.
Collaborate with Government personnel and project, engineering, security, development, and infrastructure teams to establish and communicate application and data architecture standards, policies, and direction.
Advise clients on technical aspects of native, hybrid, and multi-cloud environments, infrastructure, security, edge operations, zero trust, and enterprise or managed services.
Provide technical, managerial, and administrative direction for problem definition, analysis, requirements development, and implementation in complex cloud environments.
Identify IT, engineering, and business-process inadequacies and deficiencies that affect organizational goals.
Participate in strategy sessions, strategic assessments, and design reviews to validate enterprise approaches and work products.
Guide other professionals in a consulting or advisory capacity and coordinate resolution of highly complex problems and tasks.
