About The Position

Ford’s Electric Vehicles, Digital and Design (EVDD) team is focused on delivering the company’s vision of a fully electric transportation future. This role is part of an agile team pioneering our EV future by working collaboratively and delivering excellence. The position offers end-to-end ownership, designing, building, deploying, and operating scalable microservices on modern cloud infrastructure like Kubernetes and AWS/GCP. The code developed will power the Ford Connected Vehicle Cloud Platform, connecting over 26 million vehicles worldwide. The role involves building and operating cloud-native architectures using Java, Spring Boot, Kubernetes, Kafka, and multi-cloud environments (AWS & GCP). It combines a fast-paced, entrepreneurial culture with the stability and benefits of a global company.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field (or equivalent practical experience).
  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience designing, developing, and operating high-performance, cloud-based platforms and microservices.
  • 5+ years in roles requiring proven expertise in Java and Spring Boot.
  • 5+ years in roles hands-on experience with cloud-native architectures (AWS or GCP) and container orchestration (Kubernetes).
  • 5+ years' experience building event-driven systems using Kafka (or cloud equivalents like Pub/Sub) and working with relational/non-relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL).
  • 5+ years demonstrating technical proficiency with modern DevOps tools and CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, GitHub, ArgoCD, SonarQube) to ensure secure and efficient delivery.
  • 5+ years' experience in roles demonstrating a strong commitment to writing clean, maintainable code with experience in TDD and API performance/load testing.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
  • Experience with advanced GCP/AWS cloud-native tools (e.g., Cloud Run, Spanner, Cloud Functions, Cloud Scheduler, GKE/EKS, Terraform).
  • Deep understanding of API gateway technologies (e.g., Apigee, Tyk) and protocols (gRPC, WebSockets, REST, JSON).
  • Experience with GitOps and advanced deployment strategies (e.g., Canary deployments, Tekton, ArgoCD).
  • Experience supporting critical, "always-on" applications in high-throughput, low-latency production environments.
  • Ability to make data-informed architectural decisions, even when dealing with imperfect or incomplete data.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, maintain, and support multiple mission-critical cloud platform components and APIs that power Ford’s connected vehicle ecosystem.
  • Take ownership of software services from initial design to deployment and production operations on modern cloud infrastructure (AWS/GCP & Kubernetes).
  • Build high-performance, resilient, and event-driven microservices capable of handling massive, real-time data streams.
  • Champion clean code, Test-Driven Development (TDD), robust API design, and comprehensive load/performance testing to ensure ultra-high reliability.
  • Partner closely with product managers, technical leaders, and cross-functional teams in an agile environment to translate complex requirements into production-ready solutions.
  • Implement proactive monitoring, alerting, and performance-management strategies to ensure system health and adhere to strict SLAs.
