About The Position

This position is responsible for managing and optimizing Subway’s Akamai CDN and edge security platform. The Cloud Engineer — Akamai will configure and maintain CDN delivery properties, optimize web and API performance, and ensure platform availability and security. They will collaborate closely with application, network, and security teams to protect and accelerate Subway’s digital customer experiences across all channels.

Requirements

  • Hands-on experience administering Akamai CDN including property configuration and rule management.
  • Familiarity with Akamai Edge DNS, Global Traffic Management (GTM), and mPulse.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Terraform for infrastructure-as-code and CDN configuration automation (required).
  • Experience applying AI/ML tools to CDN optimization, threat detection, or performance monitoring (required).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Technology, Computer Science, Network Engineering, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience managing Akamai CDN in an enterprise or e-commerce environment.
  • 8+ years of experience with Windows system administration.
  • 2+ years of experience with DNS management and traffic steering configurations.
  • Experience with web performance monitoring and optimization tooling.
  • Experience writing and maintaining Terraform modules for cloud and CDN infrastructure.
  • Experience leveraging AI tools for CDN performance analysis, bot detection, or security automation.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Akamai API Gateway or API security tooling preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Configure, manage, and optimize Akamai CDN delivery properties for web and API traffic.
  • Implement and manage Akamai Web Application Firewall (WAF) and edge security policies to protect against threats including DDoS, bot traffic, and application-layer attacks.
  • Monitor CDN performance, cache offload rates, and origin health; investigate and resolve anomalies.
  • Manage Akamai DNS (Edge DNS) and traffic management policies for failover and load distribution.
  • Collaborate with application and security teams on edge security architecture and incident response.
  • Implement and manage API Gateway and API security policies on the Akamai platform.
  • Maintain Akamai platform configurations in version control; document standards and change procedures.
  • Evaluate and implement new Akamai capabilities to support performance and security initiatives.
  • Coach Infrastructure colleagues on Active Directory and vulnerability remediation best practices.
