About The Position

GDIT is seeking a Cloud Data Engineer to support the Indian Health Service Four Directions Data Warehouse (IHS 4DW) project. The position contributes to a mission-critical modernization effort to retire the legacy Resource and Patient Management System (RPMS) and transition to a new electronic health record ecosystem. The role focuses on modeling, simulating, and validating Azure-based data pipelines used for analytics and reporting. The engineer will design production-scale test environments, model data transformations, build automated testing frameworks and test data generators, and validate pipeline data quality, reliability, and performance. The role also supports HL7 FHIR data transformation testing, collaborates with engineers, architects, and developers, contributes to project-wide data engineering activities, and provides technical guidance on testing architecture and validation practices. This is a remote position within the United States. The employee must be able to obtain Public Trust Level 5 clearance, which requires U.S. residency for at least 3 of the past 5 years. Work visa sponsorship is not provided. Travel is less than 10%, and the schedule is 40 hours per week.

Requirements

  • Technical training, certification(s), or a degree and 5 or more years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong experience with Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2, Azure Synapse Analytics, and Azure Data Factory or Synapse pipelines.
  • Expertise creating test automation frameworks and performance testing solutions for data pipelines.
  • Proficiency in Python and SQL for developing test data generators, validation scripts, and test harnesses.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code, such as Bicep, ARM, or Terraform, to create reproducible, automated test environments.
  • A proven track record implementing automated testing pipelines and DevOps practices, including CI/CD, in a data engineering context.
  • Experience simulating and testing large-scale data processing systems in the cloud.
  • Must be able to obtain Public Trust Level 5 clearance; this requires U.S. residency for at least 3 of the past 5 years.
  • Work visa sponsorship is not provided.

  • Knowledge of HL7 FHIR standards and healthcare data validation patterns.
  • Advanced skills with performance testing and monitoring tools such as Azure Monitor, Application Insights, Log Analytics, JMeter, or Locust.
  • Experience with distributed systems testing, chaos or failure-mode simulations, and resiliency validation.
  • Background in data quality assurance, data governance, and validation methodologies.
  • Experience working in Agile environments and contributing technical leadership within a team.
  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Engineering, or a related field.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement test environments that simulate production-scale data loads from more than 200 healthcare facilities.
  • Model data transformation processes to validate ETL accuracy, completeness, and performance.
  • Build automated testing frameworks to validate health data quality and pipeline reliability.
  • Develop test data generators that represent healthcare data patterns, edge cases, and error conditions.
  • Implement load testing and performance validation solutions for Azure-based data pipelines and services.
  • Create and maintain testing environments for HL7 FHIR data transformations and related data standards.
  • Collaborate with data engineers, architects, and developers to ensure end-to-end data pipeline quality.
