About The Position

This role is for a Cloud/Data Architect with experience in Azure/AWS, GIS architecture, SaaS, Agile/Scrum teams, and Dimensional Modeling. The position is located in Richmond, VA (VDOT) and is a contract role expected to last 6+ months, with potential for extension up to 12+ months. The candidate must be local to Richmond, VA, and will participate in Microsoft Teams interviews, requiring a webcam. The architect will be responsible for creating overall application and solution architectures, component designs, systems integration, and implementations. This includes creating data models and XML schemas at all levels (conceptual, logical, physical) for relational and dimensional solutions, integrating disparate data models, and documenting data lineages and definitions. The role involves identifying master data, capturing user interpretation of data, and leading efforts in defining, documenting, and estimating enterprise applications. Responsibilities also include capturing requirements for data, workflow, hardware, operating systems, interfaces, and controls, as well as collaborating with IT staff to translate business needs into automated solutions. The architect will produce solution design artifacts, coordinate new system development for integration with existing systems, analyze feasibility, and consult with clients on application design. Collaboration with business areas and Enterprise Architects is key to understanding business needs and providing strategic consultation, developing roadmaps, and designing enterprise security/technology patterns. The role also involves providing tactical direction and architecture considerations for legacy solutions.

Requirements

Experience in enterprise-level application design and integration
5 Years Experience in cloud application (Azure/AWS) /GIS architecture
5 Years Experience in SaaS (Software as a Service) architecture
5 Years Experience with integration architecture and proven work experience with Agile/Scrum teams
5 Years Experience in Conceptual, Logical, Physical and Dimensional Modeling
Experience with SAFe architecture and proven work experience with Agile/Scrum teams.
Proven experience in developing enterprise and solution level architectural designs.
Proven experience in overseeing the linking of cross-functional applications between disparate business units and systems.
Experience with business and technical requirements analysis, business process modeling/mapping, methodology development, and data mapping.
Knowledge of relational database design and management techniques.
Good project management skills and/or substantial exposure to project-based work structures, project lifecycle models, etc.
Strong knowledge of system and software quality assurance best practices and methodologies.
Competency with XML constructs and schemas.
Confidence and experience with API protocols and schemas such as SOAP and REST.
Strong understanding of end-user needs and requirements.
Broad understanding of Data Architecture and Data Management approaches and implementation methodologies
Ability to work with business as well as IT stakeholders
Minimum of 5+ years of experience designing large scale data models for functional, operational and analytical environments
Demonstrated experience in Conceptual, Logical, Physical and Dimensional Modeling
Hands-on experience with data modeling tools
Ability to work creatively and analytically in a team environment.
Excellent communication and documentation skills
5+ years of experience as Data Modeler/Data Architect creating data models and working in Data Architecture and Data Management solutions

Nice To Haves

Experience with BI tools, such as Power BI, Tableau
Experience with Agile/Scrum is valuable
Excellent understanding of the organization's goals and objectives.

Responsibilities

Create overall application and solution architectures, component designs, and systems integration and implementations for a particular business solution.
Create data models and xml schemas at all levels including conceptual, logical, and physical for both relational and dimensional solutions. Models will include objects, entities, attributes, their inter-relationships and dependencies in 3N and/or dimensional formats
Integrate disparate data models into coherent enterprise data models
Create data dictionaries and business glossaries to document data lineages, data definitions, and metadata for all business-critical data domains
Work to identify master data (entities and attributes) and capture how data is interpreted by users in various parts of the organization
Lead efforts in defining, documenting and estimating the following for enterprise applications.
Capture requirements for data, workflow, logical processes, hardware and operating system environment, on- prem, hybrid and cloud topologies, interfaces with other systems, internal and external checks and controls, system inputs and output.
Collaborate with other IT staff to assess business needs and requirements and translate them into automated solutions
Produce relevant solution design artifacts including but not limited to technical estimates, conceptual, logical and physical system designs, sequence diagrams, and data models
Coordinate new system development to ensure it is consistent and well integrated with existing application systems and COTS solutions
Analyze and estimate feasibility and compatibility with hardware and other programs; and will consult with clients to prototype, architect, and design applications to meet needs.
Collaborate with Business areas and cross-functional Enterprise Architects to fully understand business needs and provide strategic consultation
Partner with architects, other technical team members and to develop roadmaps and strategies to support agency KPIs
Design/Implement Enterprise Security/technology Patterns
Consult with teams as needed on initiatives and provide tactical direction as well as provide architecture considerations on legacy solutions
