About The Position

BJ’s Wholesale Club is seeking a dedicated Closing Manager to provide leadership and direction within the club, focusing on driving club performance, particularly in departments they directly manage. This role involves leading Assistant Closing Managers, Recovery, and Utility teams, ensuring effective performance through guidance and oversight. The Closing Manager is accountable for upholding policies and procedures, delivering exceptional member service, maintaining Grand Opening Look Daily (GOLD) standards, and assisting in audit compliance. They will collaborate with Business Partners, oversee onboarding, certification, and training for food safety and operational excellence, and act as Manager on Duty (MOD) as needed, taking full responsibility for club operations during their shifts. A valid ServSafe Food Safety Certification is required, along with yearly forklift license certification. In Florida, a specific retail propane oversight certification is also necessary. BJ’s covers all applicable costs and training for these certifications.

Requirements

  • 2 years of experience in retail, supermarket, or warehouse perishable operations required.
  • Experience in managing inventory turnover and waste reduction strategies.
  • Forklift Certification required.
  • High school diploma required.
  • Basic computer proficiency (MS Word, Excel, Email) required.
  • Open shift availability required.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must maintain all training and required certifications.
  • Must maintain a valid ServSafe Food Safety Certification.
  • Must obtain a qualifier certification through the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services for retail propane oversight in Florida.
  • Must complete yearly certification for a forklift license.
  • Must complete the qualifier certification exam online with video.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee end-of-day execution for Recovery, Utility, Perishables (Produce, Meat, Bakery, Deli, Dairy/Freezer), and overnight prep to ensure readiness for morning open.
  • Actively walk the floor during closing hours to observe and engage with Members and team performance.
  • Guarantee Greet, Anticipate, Appreciate (GAA) and Fast, Friendly, Full, Fresh, Clean experience until the last Member exits.
  • Ensure full-functioning departments through close by validating registers, attended perishable stations, and operational service areas.
  • Support issue resolution by personally resolving or escalating evening Member concerns.
  • Monitor closing in-stocks, product rotation, culling, and merchandising, especially in perishables.
  • Conduct quality and date checks, removing damaged or outdated items.
  • Confirm daily cleaning checklists, sweep logs, waste pulls, and safety procedures are completed.
  • Manage Assistant Closing Manager and Recovery team productivity through scheduling and coaching.
  • Leverage tools like Hot List, NAFS, Electronic Reports, incorrect price sign reports, pallet tag utilization, productivity dashboards, and department-level reporting to validate execution and prioritize tasks.
  • Ensure sanitation, cold chain, and safety checklists are completed daily and documentation is compliant for audit readiness.
  • Champion “close to open” operational standards, ensuring departments are clean, stocked, and ready for the next day.
  • Identify and escalate issues with compactors, refrigeration, and cleaning tools for proactive repairs.
  • Reinforce ServSafe, PPE, and department-specific training for new and existing team members.
  • Actively support departments in the bottom quartile by ensuring consistent follow-through on action plans and reinforcing daily execution standards.
  • Work closely with ACMs, Club Manager, and Department Leads to improve closing routines and member experience.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to provide operational support.
  • Execute assigned tasks and ensure compliance with product liabilities and company initiatives using BJ’s MY WORK system.
  • Operate forklift safely and efficiently, following all safety protocols and procedures.
  • Maintain regular, predictable, full attendance as an essential function of the role.
