About The Position

The English Department at Illinois State University is creating a pool of qualified individuals for potential part-time, non-tenure-track student-teacher supervising positions throughout the academic year. This role involves mentoring teacher candidates during their student teaching internship, acting as a liaison between the university and school district personnel, particularly the cooperating teacher. Responsibilities include conducting on-site observations of student-teachers, providing formal assessments of their teaching, responding to weekly online journal assignments, and assigning the final grade for the student teaching class.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in English or related field
  • At least five years of classroom teaching experience in a middle school or high school English classroom
  • Demonstrable oral proficiency in the English language as mandated by state law

Responsibilities

  • Mentor teacher candidates in their student teaching internship
  • Act as a liaison between ISU and the school district personnel, primarily the cooperating teacher
  • Observe the student-teacher on-site at least four times during the student teaching semester
  • Provide a formal assessment of the teacher candidate's teaching episodes
  • Respond to weekly online journal assignments written by the student-teacher
  • Provide the grade for the student-teacher of the student teaching class
