About The Position

Emory Healthcare is seeking a dedicated Clinician Charge, Cardiology Stepdown Registered Nurse (RN) to join their team. This full-time position operates from 7p-7:30a, requiring 36 hours per week. The role involves being a capable charge nurse with extensive experience in patient care, particularly within a specific patient population. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of patient care, routinely applying acquired knowledge, theory, research, and experience to manage changing clinical situations. This RN will utilize the Synergy Model for Care to personalize patient and family care, serving as a resource for colleagues and a strong advocate for them. The Clinician Charge is responsible for planning, coordinating, and directing the daily operations of a specific shift on a clinical unit, supervising staff, and facilitating communication with physicians and administrators to ensure optimal patient and family-centered care. This role is recognized as a change agent, leading efforts to strengthen organizational systems and demonstrating expertise in problem-solving, conflict negotiation, and collaboration. The position requires strong clinical judgment, sound risk-taking, and expert communication skills, with foresight regarding the impact of nursing care on patient outcomes. The Clinician Charge acts as an expert clinician and leader within their specialty, completing various reports, evaluating operational forms, and coordinating necessary unit resources for optimal patient outcomes. They model time management and ensure compliance with policies and procedures, staying informed of clinical trends through benchmarking and evidence-based practice. This role includes functioning as a charge nurse, modeling delegation skills, mentoring other Registered Nurses in the charge nurse role, and leading team behavior. They provide direction and guidance to less experienced staff regarding policies, scheduling, assignments, and daily operations, and participate in performance reviews. The Clinician Charge incorporates the Synergy Model for Care in nurse/patient assignments, evaluates resource utilization and cost containment, and coordinates unit staffing. They also participate in regulatory agency reviews, assist with administrative activities like budget planning and staffing schedules, and evaluate the impact of policies on daily operations. The role supports administrative decisions, facilitates daily operational issues, and ensures compliance with educational requirements. Effective communication, conflict resolution, and employee counseling are key aspects of this position. The Clinician Charge empowers and advocates for nurses, addresses customer concerns, and handles escalated patient issues, while also challenging and shaping systems for optimal outcomes. They implement innovative approaches, identify and respond to the needs of unit staff, and collaborate on educational programs, including developing management/leadership focused in-service training. The role requires adherence to Clinical Nurse I Employee Commitments and achievement of points and contact hours within the PLAN (clinical lattice) point system.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited prelicensure Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
  • 2 years of recent nursing experience
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in the area of concentration.
  • A valid, unencumbered Registered Nursing License approved by the Georgia Board of Nursing.
  • BLS certification.
  • ACLS may be required for certain departments, post hire
  • Additional certifications may be required based on department and specialty
  • If completing virtual care activities that may include multi-state practice, an active compact/multistate license (eNLC) is required within 60 days of hire.
  • Employees in role prior to 11/09/2025 will have until their next renewal date to achieve compact status.
  • Must meet all Clinical Nurse Employee Commitments.
  • Achieves electives/points and contact hours as defined in the PLAN (clinical lattice) point system to maintain position.
  • Must complete UCN/SNM criteria requirements within nine (9) months of promotion or hire, including completion of Enhancing your Communication HLC#6488, completion of formal preceptor training workshop and enrollment in LEAP course.

  • Serves as an arbitrator in resolution of conflicts between nursing staff.
  • Takes appropriate action to correct unacceptable communication/behavior as needed.
  • Takes appropriate action to counsel employees (i.e., verbal warnings for attendance & performance issues).
  • Aware of and supports units and colleagues needs through supportive and non-judgmental behaviors.
  • Actively empowers and advocates for nurses.
  • Takes appropriate action to address customer concerns and complaints (i.e., appropriate follow-up with Unit Director and risk management).
  • Addresses escalated patient issues and refers issues to Unit Director or Patient Advocate when unable to resolve.
