About The Position

The University of Wisconsin Carbone Cancer Center (UWCCC) Clinical Research Finance Office (CRFO) is looking for a Clinical Trials Budget & Contract Analyst to join our team. Up to two positions are available. The CRFO supports financial activities across the spectrum of pre-award (budgets) and post-award (accounting) to support clinical trials and advance the mission of UWCCC. Working closely with investigators, study teams, sponsors, and other campus partners, this role develops and negotiates clinical trial budgets, reviews research-related agreements, and helps ensure study costs are appropriately captured and supported. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys financial analysis, problem solving, and collaboration in a mission-driven environment. Successful candidates are detail-oriented, curious, and motivated to contribute to clinical research that advances scientific knowledge, develops new cancer therapies, and improves the lives of patients and families impacted by cancer.

Requirements

  • One or more years of experience in research administration, finance, and/or clinical trials (including protocol management, study participant management, billing compliance, financial management, regulatory management, or QA/Compliance).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience developing, negotiating, and revising clinical trial budgets.
  • Experience with both industry-sponsored and investigator-initiated trials.
  • Experience managing a portfolio of projects.
  • Experience with a Clinical Trials Management System (such as OnCore).
  • Experience with oncology clinical trials.

Responsibilities

  • Department-level review of clinical trial contracts and routing to Research and Sponsored Programs (RSP) for legal review.
  • Participation in billing compliance review processes.
  • Drafting clinical trial budgets according to UW, SMPH, and Cancer Center policies and applicable regulations.
  • Negotiation of budgets with clinical trial sponsors and/or their contract research organizations (CROs).
  • Configuration of budgets within our Clinical Trials Management System (OnCore) for use by the post-award team.
  • Processing amendments to contracts and budgets as needed due to changes to the trial.
  • Communication with various internal external stakeholders, including UWCCC Disease Oriented Teams (DOTs), UW departments such as our research pharmacy, RSP, the SMPH Dean’s office, Sponsors, and Contract Research Organizations (CROs).
  • May work with campus partners to establish new accounts in the financial accounting system
  • Prepares and routes proposals, award documents, and sponsored project agreements according to established policies and procedures while adhering closely to deadlines
  • Maintains accurate financial data in departmental financial information systems and databases
  • Reviews proposal budgets and ensures allowability and accuracy of requested costs per sponsor and campus guidelines
