About The Position

Consistent with the Iowa Department of Public Health Bureau of Professional Licensure Standards, the Psychiatric Unit Therapist is a member of the MercyOne Dubuque Medical Center multi-disciplinary treatment team and is accountable for the delivery of holistic, compassionate, individualized, and effective care demonstrated using the core functions of practice associated in a clinical role. Requirements

  • Master’s Degree: LMHC or LISW preferred, will consider LMSW (Supervision available).
  • Field of Study: Social Work or Psychology
  • Licensure in the state of Iowa
  • Excellent communication, listening and writing skills.
  • Solid understanding of behavioral health disorders and symptoms in the DSM 5.
  • Must possess a personal presence that is characterized by a sense of honesty, integrity, and caring with the ability to inspire and motivate others to promote the philosophy, mission, vision, goals, and values of Trinity Health.

Responsibilities

  • Establish a positive, trusting rapport with patients and/or families.
  • Conduct thorough bio-psycho-social assessments.
  • Provide individual, group and/or family counseling and educational sessions for both patients and family members.
  • Monitor participation and progress in the program to ensure the planned provision of services.
  • Prepare and maintain electronic patient records consistent with rules and regulations.
  • Assure compliance with all regulatory rules and regulations including HIPAA, 42 C.F.R, IDPH, Joint Commission, etc.
  • Consult, confer and coordinate with members of the multi-disciplinary team for psychiatric services including the psychiatrists, nurses, case managers, social workers, etc.
  • Create, implement, and monitor individual patient treatment plans according to needs and circumstances while revising/updating them as appropriate.
  • Coordinate with area agencies and resources to offer holistic care for patients while minimizing potential barriers, referring patients when necessary.
  • Demonstrate patience, compassion, and motivation in a high-energy and demanding environment.

  • Knows and adheres to all laws and regulations pertaining to patient health, safety and medical.
  • Practice within the legal scope of a professional counselor as outlined by the Iowa Department of Public Health Bureau of Professional Licensure and retain accountability for one’s own counseling practice.
  • Utilize research and evidence-based practice standards in the delivery of patient care.
  • Continuously seek out opportunities to improve the quality of patient care delivery through innovative and creative problem solving.
  • Support and participate in shared leadership and interdisciplinary decision-making.
  • Demonstrate ethical conduct and practice consistent with the American Counselor Association (ACA) or National Association of Social Workers (NASW) Code of Ethics.
