Cleveland Clinic’s G90 Urology/Medical-Surgical Telemetry Unit is dedicated to the care of post-operative urology and overflow surgical patients and focuses on pain control, return of bowel and bladder function, DVT prevention and ambulation. Patients in this unit range in age from young adult to geriatric, however, the most common patient population is approximately 65 years old. Some of the primary procedures performed on this unit include partial nephrectomy, radical nephrectomy, radical prostatectomy, urolithiasis, and cystectomy with continent/incontinent urinary diversion. A caregiver in this position works days, from 7:00am—7:00pm.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within new hire period (Nursing students required to have BLS prior to hire)
  • One year of recent, full-time patient care experience
  • Additional education/training may substitute for some/all the stated experience (i.e. mental health experience)
  • Nursing students who have recently completed a minimum of one clinical rotation as part of an accredited nursing school program may substitute the clinical rotation for the required experience
  • Military experience as a Hospital Corpsman (HM), Combat Medic (68W) or Medical Service Technician (4N0X1) will be considered

Responsibilities

  • Provide or assist with patient care under the supervision of an RN, such as taking vital signs and weight, assisting patients with personal care, point of care testing, dressing changes, applying external monitoring devices and removing urinary Foley Catheters.
  • Report abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to an RN.
  • Assist with keeping patients’ rooms clean and orderly.
