The 10-bed Heart Failure Specialty Care Unit at Cleveland Clinic is dedicated to the care of adults with complex and advanced heart failure. This highly specialized unit supports patients with chronic conditions, including those awaiting heart transplant or requiring intensive medical management. Caregivers on this unit provide advanced therapies such as intravenous vasoactive medications, ACE inhibitors, and diuretics, while closely monitoring patients’ hemodynamic status. Many patients require a higher level of support, including mechanical ventilation, intra-aortic balloon pump therapy, or left ventricular assist devices. The unit also cares for adolescent and adult patients with pulmonary hypertension, utilizing pulmonary artery catheter monitoring and specialized intravenous treatments. Working in this environment offers the opportunity to develop deep expertise in cardiac critical care while making a meaningful impact on some of the most medically complex patient populations.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross upon or within new hire period
  • One year of recent, full-time patient care experience OR nursing student with at least one completed clinical rotation as part of an accredited Nursing School Program
  • Military experience as a Hospital Corpsman (HM), Combat Medic (68W) or Medical Service Technician (4N0X1)OR additional education/training (e.g., mental health)

Responsibilities

  • Provide or assist with patient care under the supervision of an RN, such as taking vital signs and weight, assisting patients with personal care, point of care testing, dressing changes, applying external monitoring devices and removing urinary Foley Catheters.
  • Report abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to an RN.
  • Assist with keeping patients’ rooms clean and orderly.
