About The Position

Seton Hall University School of Law is seeking a Clinical Teaching Fellow/Practitioner-in-Residence to begin in the fall of 2026. This position, housed within the Center for Social Justice and specifically with the Immigrants' Rights/International Human Rights Clinic, is designed to support the career launch of a practitioner with 3-5 years of experience. The role offers a unique blend of clinical teaching, supervision, and litigation of detained immigration cases. The fellow/practitioner will represent detained clients in immigration and federal court, co-teach with an experienced clinician, and receive mentorship for scholarship pursuits. The initial appointment is for one year, with the possibility of extension for one to two additional years, contingent on grant funding.

Requirements

• At least 3 years of legal practice experience.
• Demonstrate potential for teaching excellence.
• J.D. degree.
• Membership in good standing of the Bar of any state.
• Opportunity to apply for admission to New Jersey.

Nice To Haves

• Legal experience in New Jersey.
• Legal experience in substantive areas related to the clinic’s work, including immigration, federal court litigation, and civil rights.

Responsibilities

• Co-supervise students with Professor Nessel during the first year.
• Assist with teaching the seminar component of the clinics.
• Manage a small docket of detained immigration and federal court cases.
• Provide coverage for the clinic docket over the summer and winter breaks.
• Represent detained clients in immigration and federal court litigation.
• Co-teach with an experienced clinician.
• Be mentored in pursuit of scholarship interests and goals.
