About The Position

This role supports day-to-day operations in a clinical environment by providing entry-level services and contributing to patient care support, departmental projects, and operational initiatives. With guidance, training, and mentorship from senior staff, the intern develops foundational expertise while participating in projects, research, and operational problem-solving. The role supports unit priorities, develops professional skills, and contributes recommendations for continuous improvement, while providing exposure to healthcare careers and clinical operations.

Employees must follow applicable ethical and legal standards, company policies, and behavioral expectations, including requirements for protecting confidential information and complying with HIPAA, data security policies, the Code of Business Conduct, and required training.

Requirements

• Be enrolled at a high school located in a county within the geographic areas served by Highmark Health and Allegheny Health Network facilities.

Responsibilities

• Under supervision, provide entry-level services that support the day-to-day operating objectives of the clinical area.
• Receive guidance, training, and mentoring while planning and carrying out activities and assignments.
• Participate in projects and programs designed to develop professional skills and expertise relevant to the organization.
• Participate in planning and implementing unit projects and initiatives within the intern’s area of expertise and ability.
• Communicate with patients, colleagues, and internal or external constituencies when planning assignments and resolving day-to-day operational problems.
• Conduct research and prepare reports, including recommendations or alternative proposals for action, as requested by management.
• Undertake related studies or enrichment programs to develop understanding of healthcare systems and clinical roles.
• Perform miscellaneous job-related duties and other duties as assigned or requested.
