About The Position

UC Health is hiring a Clinical Staff Pharmacist for The Inpatient Pharmacy Department at the University of Cincinnati’s Medical Center. This is a full-time position with 40 hours per week, and the shift varies. A $20,000 sign-on bonus is being offered. Clinical staff pharmacists are responsible for filling medication orders, monitoring patient medication therapies, providing drug information, and supervising support personnel. In the absence of the pharmacy manager, a clinical staff pharmacist may be required to assume essential responsibilities and perform the duties of the pharmacy manager. The University of Cincinnati Medical Center is a Level 1 Trauma Facility and has served the Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky area for nearly 200 years. It is part of the Clifton Campus of UC Health, Greater Cincinnati’s academic health system. Hundreds of thousands of patients receive care from their world-renowned clinicians and care team annually. Their experts utilize advanced medical knowledge and technology, providing a level of specialty and subspecialty medical care not available elsewhere in the region. There are no on-call requirements, and the rotation schedule includes every third weekend. The learning environment allows for constant development.

Requirements

  • B.S. in pharmacy from an accredited college of pharmacy is required.
  • Licensed or eligible for pharmacist licensure in the state of Ohio.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal direct supervision.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with health-system and pharmacy staff.
  • Ability to handle frequent interruptions and adapt to changes in workload and work schedule.
  • Ability to set priorities, make critical decisions, and respond quickly to emergent requests.
  • Ability to exercise sound professional judgment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively (orally and in writing).
  • Ability to meet the pharmaceutical care needs of the patient populations served by UC Health.

Nice To Haves

  • PharmD preferred degree.
  • ACLS preferred.
  • Greater than or equal to a six-month hospital pharmacy internship or hospital experience as a pharmacist is preferred.
  • Preference will be given to completion of a PGY1 pharmacy residency program (or an equivalent combination of education and experience).

Responsibilities

  • Prepares and dispenses medication orders per physician request according to established policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Interprets medication orders (verbal and written) and transcribes to computerized patient medication profiles accurately; maintains accurate, complete medication profiles.
  • Prepares and dispenses medications, including sterile, chemotherapy, and parenteral nutrition preparations safely and accurately using appropriate techniques.
  • Issues controlled substances to patient care areas and maintain records as required by law.
  • Ensures safe, appropriate, cost-effective medication therapies for patients according to established policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Contributes to the quality and effective operation of the department.
  • Maintains competence required for current job title/position.
  • Meets hospital and department standards of performance.
  • Assists with pharmacokinetics consult service and drug dosing per organizational protocol.
