About The Position

Provide support for the daily operations and activities of the Clinical Skills and Simulation Labs in the School of Nursing related to lab learning and simulation delivery, including the preparation, maintenance and routine care and basic upkeep of related resources and equipment, software, hardware (human patient simulators and peripherals), multimedia and A/V equipment used in the simulation lab, following established procedures.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with medical simulation technologies, audio visual tools such as augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR), and basic knowledge of artificial intelligence (AI) is an asset.
  • Prefer experience working in an acute care clinical environment or nursing clinical skills lab environment that simulates a real practice setting where responsibilities included setting up the lab and ensuring equipment and supplies for clinical skills teaching and learning activities.
  • Familiarity with operational, facilities, and equipment requirements of a nursing skills/simulation laboratory;
  • Possess working knowledge of handling nursing equipment and supplies.
  • Possess strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities as they relate to minor repairs of hardware and software, web-based and simulation technology.
  • The candidate should have the ability to remain flexible in an advanced technical and computerized environment;
  • Understanding and general knowledge of Moulage, AV, and IT is preferred.
  • Computer experience required (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Microsoft Teams, and virtual meeting platforms.
  • Remains current with technical and professional skills.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains and organizes an inventory of lab supplies that supports teaching activities in the School of Nursing, with strong collaboration and communication with other team members within the Clinical Skills and Simulation Lab unit.
  • Organizes teaching materials to facilitate student learning at skill stations including the preparation and organization of written and electronic materials and resources available to learners at stations.
  • Organizes and ensures supplies are stocked and prepared before clinical skills sessions and/or exams according to established checklists and schedules.
  • Provides on-site support for clinical skills sessions and/or exams to support clinical faculty with teaching as it relates to equipment use/supplies to ensure all sessions run smoothly, escalating non-routine issues to the Clinical Skills and Simulation Lab Learning Coordinator.
  • Cleans and stores equipment following established procedures, reporting items requiring repair and/or replacement.
  • Routinely monitors and ensures equipment or inventory that needs replacement or repair is communicated with the Nursing Clinical Skills and Simulation Lab Learning Coordinator.
  • Provides first-level troubleshooting of the equipment and simulators, escalating complex or unresolved issues to senior technical staff.
  • Sets up and tears down all the simulators and task trainers and AV systems following established setup guides and instructions.
  • Provides operational support for clinical skills teaching sessions and simulation sessions by preparing equipment, supplies and stations as directed by senior technical staff.
  • Provides input on short-term supply needs and reports observations to support long-term resource planning conducted by the Clinical Skills and Simulation Lab Learning Coordinator.
  • Communicates with faculty lab leads in the Undergraduate and Nurse Practitioner program and the Associate Director, Experiential Education on all scheduled clinical skills sessions and OSCEs.
  • Attends required trainings related to function of the job.
  • Attends lab team meetings as required.
  • Other duties as required, as applicable to the position.
