About The Position

Career Opportunity: Clinical Services Responder in the Tri-State of Kentucky and Surrounding Regions Are you looking for an opportunity to make a meaningful, life-changing impact through organ donation? In this role, you will use your clinical expertise to evaluate potential donors, coordinate critical care and support, guide hospital professionals through time-sensitive decisions, and help maximize opportunities for successful donation. As a Clinical Services Responder, you will respond to referred potential organ donors, review medical records and clinical information, determine donation suitability under organizational and regulatory guidelines, and provide timely information to donor-hospital professionals. You will also document required donor information, assess family and hospital support needs, identify the legal next-of-kin, and assist with specimen collection and labeling requirements. This position reports to the Manager of Recovery Services and works across hospital clinical settings. Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED and healthcare experience required.
  • One to two years of hospital experience required.
  • Strong attention to detail, time management, professional communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to exercise discretion, protect confidential information, and collaborate effectively in sensitive clinical situations; nonprofit experience is helpful.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree in nursing, respiratory care, paramedic medicine, biological sciences, or a related field preferred.
  • Relevant credentials may include LPN, STNA, Paramedic, EMT, or Medical Assistant.
  • BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to potential organ donor referrals and evaluate clinical suitability using Life Connection of Ohio, CMS, OPTN/UNOS, AOPO, and CDC guidelines.
  • Identify clinical triggers that support timely hospital referrals of potential donors.
  • Review medical records, including present and past medical history, malignancies, surgeries, treatments, laboratory results, diagnostics, and procedural records.
  • Recognize organ-specific behavioral risk factors and understand legal and hospital requirements for death declaration and organ donation.
  • Assess family dynamics, available hospital support, and cultural, religious, emotional, and informational needs.
  • Identify the patient’s legal next-of-kin in accordance with state law and the Uniform Anatomical Gift Act.
  • Support required blood, culture, and tissue-typing specimen collection and labeling procedures.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and confidential donor records in compliance with organizational and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain current knowledge of donation standards and regulatory changes and communicate relevant updates to staff and leadership.
