About The Position

MHA promotes mental health and total wellness for individuals facing challenges associated with mental illness and addiction recovery. We increase community awareness while enhancing mental well-being through advocacy, education, prevention, treatment, and services. Co-Response delivers crisis response in collaboration with local police departments, ensuring that individuals in a mental health related crisis feel safe and get the support they need in order to stabilize. MHA is seeking a Clinical Co-Responder to join our Perth Amboy Co-Response Team to support Perth Amboy’s Police Department! Clinical Supervision may be provided! Shift time available is Monday - Friday, 3PM - 11PM.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree and a License in Social Work or Counseling is required (LPC/LCSW Preferred, LAC or LSW will be considered with at least 1-2 years of experience).
  • Must have a valid NJ driver’s license and a good driving record.
  • Ability to provide effective crisis response and de-escalation as related to community mental health/justice involved individuals in the community.
  • Able to collaborate effectively with responding officers to provide support and resources to individuals within the city of Perth Amboy.
  • Provides co-responding efforts to identify mental health and crisis response incidents in the community, in collaboration with the City of Perth Amboy.

  • Knowledge of Middlesex County resources is helpful.

Responsibilities

  • Provides co-responding efforts to identified mental health and crisis response incidents in the community, in collaboration with the township of Perth Amboy.
  • Responding to calls in conjunction with Perth Amboy Police Department for cases in which a mental health concern is indicated, including but not limited to: mental health crisis, quality of life calls, wellness checks, death notifications and connection/linkage to community services.
  • Ongoing collaboration with Perth Amboy Police Department around appropriate training and education to support a shift towards better understanding of the social services lens and best practice regarding de-escalation approaches on calls.
  • Developing systems for on-going follow up for community members in need of connections to social services that can enhance prevention of non-emergency calls and increase early intervention treatment access.
  • Direct follow up with identified clients and collateral contacts as needed in order to facilitate access to appropriate services based on immediate client needs.
  • Record keeping, reports, and documentation in accordance with program requirements.
  • Being on-call and available to the Perth Amboy Police Department during scheduled work hours via cell phone.
  • Provide Perth Amboy Police Department with monthly trainings on varying mental health related topics as determined through collaboration.
  • Attend regularly scheduled meetings: supervision, agency meetings, and training(s) as assigned.
  • Record keeping as required by funding sources through the electronic clinical record software, and/or accreditation agencies as required.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Program Director.
