About The Position

As an Ophthalmic Scribe, you will work alongside a physician, dictating into the patient's chart and assisting with minor in-office procedures. This role involves bringing patients to and from exam rooms, performing detailed documentation of patient work-ups and OD/MD comments in the patient's electronic medical record, and completing the patient encounter form based on the determined diagnosis. You will also apply drops for anesthesia, dilation, or medication, provide chair-side physician assistance, administer treatment as allowed and ordered, and review care instructions with patients. A key part of this role is completing a detailed patient history, including past medical history, family medical history, and chief complaint. You will check patient's visual acuity (far, near, peripheral, depth perception, and color perception), examine eyes for abnormalities, and perform other tests and measurements such as A-scans, B-scans, fundus photography, corneal topography, HRTII, and pachymetry. Measuring intraocular pressure (glaucoma test) and reading patient's eyeglass prescription with automated lensometry are also responsibilities. Additionally, you will prep exam rooms for treatment, maintain patient confidentiality following HIPAA regulations, demonstrate basic knowledge of eye anatomy, disease, symptoms & ocular medications, and stay current with the latest technologies and medications to answer general patient questions.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Valid driver's license and ability to drive a motor vehicle
  • Efficient computer skills and ability to type 40+ words per minute

Responsibilities
