About The Position

Directly accountable to the Manager Health Services, the Clinical Resource Nurse (CRN) is responsible for providing clinical leadership support and expertise to the nursing team. The Clinical Resource Nurse assumes a leadership role in coordinating patient/resident care within the health care team to ensure quality patient/resident care outcomes, and promotes an interdisciplinary patient/resident centred approach to care based on best practice. Performs all duties in accordance with established health and safety regulations/guidelines, policies and procedures (e.g. utilizing personal, protective equipment as per safe work procedures). Notifies their Manager or their designates (i.e. supervisors) of all occurrences, injuries illnesses or safety and health concerns which are likely to harm themselves, their co-workers, patients/residents or any others who enter the premises.

Requirements

  • Minimum of three years current, relevant clinical experience in long-term care.
  • Recent experience in the provision of adult education.
  • Graduate of an approved Registered Nursing or Registered Psychiatric Nursing (Mental Health) education program required.
  • Demonstrated evidence of continued professional development.
  • Responsible for maintaining and providing proof of active registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (CRNM) or the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Manitoba (CRPNM).
  • Knowledge of the vision, values, goals and objectives of the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority and Deer Lodge Centre.
  • Knowledge of the Centres' Mission Statement, Resident Bill of Rights and Code of Conduct.
  • Knowledge of College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba Standards of Practice for Registered Nurses/College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Manitoba Standards of Practice for RPNs in Mental Health.
  • Knowledge of Canadian Nurses Association Code of Ethics for Registered Nurses/College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Manitoba Code of Ethics for RPNs in Mental Health.
  • Knowledge of Scope of practice as documented in the Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA)/Registered Psychiatric Nurses Act for RPNs in Mental Health.
  • Knowledge of Regional/Facility/Unit policies, procedures, protocols, and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of Nursing care related to clinical area.
  • Knowledge of Personal Health Information Act (PHIA), Protection of Persons in Care Act, Mental Health Act, Workplace Hazardous Material Information System (WHMIS), Principles of Routine Practices (Universal Precautions) and other legislated acts.
  • Knowledge of Roles and responsibilities of members of the healthcare team.
  • Knowledge of Principles of delegation.
  • Demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize care for an individual patient or group of patients.
  • Ability to delegate care appropriately and monitor outcomes of delegated care.
  • Ability to respond to a variety of simultaneous demands.
  • Ability to recognize and pursue self-development opportunities.

Nice To Haves

  • Baccalaureate degree in Nursing from a recognized university preferred.
  • Master's degree is preferred.
  • Successful completion of a relevant post basic program may be required or preferred in designated areas.
  • For Mental Health positions: certification in “Non-Violent Crisis Intervention” is required.
  • Active participation in professional associations e.g. Association of Regulated Nurses of Manitoba (ARNM) preferred.
  • Preference will be given to those applicants competent in an Indigenous language and/or knowledge in Indigenous customs, traditions and values.
