About The Position

Under the general supervision of, and in collaboration with the manager, the Clinical Resource Nurse is responsible for providing clinical leadership and expertise to nurses. The CRN assumes a leadership role in coordinating patient care within the healthcare team to ensure quality patient care outcomes, and promote an interdisciplinary patient centered approach to care based on best practice. Demonstrates a commitment to the vision, values, goals and objectives of the region/facility/unit.

Requirements

  • Minimum three years within the past 5 years recent related clinical nursing experience in Nephrology nursing.
  • Demonstrated strong leadership skills in the applicable area.
  • Graduate of an approved Registered Nursing (RN) education program (BN preferred); or Graduate of an approved Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) education Program.
  • Successful completion of the Manitoba Nephrology Nursing Course (MNNC) or a post-basic Nephrology Nursing program as recognized by the Centre is required.
  • Current Manitoba registration with CRNM or CLPNM in good standing is required.
  • Knowledge of College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba Standards of Practice for Registered Nurses.
  • Knowledge of Canadian Nurses Association Code of Ethics for Registered Nurses.
  • Knowledge of Scope of practice as documented in the Registered Nurses Act; or Manitoba Standards of Practice for Licensed Practical Nurses.
  • Knowledge of Code of Ethics for Licensed Practice Nurses and Scope of Practice.
  • Knowledge of Regional/Facility/Unit policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of Nursing care related to the clinical area.
  • Knowledge of Personal Health Information Act (PHIA), Protection of Persons in Care Act, Mental Health Act, Workplace Hazardous Material Information System (WHMIS), Principles of Routine Practices (Universal Precautions) and other legislated acts.
  • Knowledge of Roles and responsibilities of members of the healthcare team.
  • Knowledge of Principles of delegation.
  • Demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize care for an individual patient or group of patients.
  • Ability to delegate care appropriately and monitor outcomes of delegated care.
  • Ability to respond to a variety of simultaneous demands.
  • Ability to recognize and pursue self-development opportunities.
  • Ability to perform independently and as a member of the healthcare team.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to changing situations.
  • Ability to maintain concentration with frequent interruptions.

  • Proficient with computers, software programs, and applications such as Windows, Word processing, spreadsheets and databases.
  • A current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • BN preferred for RN education program.
  • Active participation in professional associations preferred, eg. Association of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (ARNM), College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (CRNM) or College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Manitoba (CLPNM).
  • Successful completion of the Canadian Association of Nephrology Nursing Certificate (CNCC) preferred.
  • Preferences will be given to those applicants competent in an Indigenous language and/or knowledge in Indigenous customs, traditions and values.
  • LEADS in a Caring Environment training is preferred or combination of Leads and/or leadership training courses.
