About The Position

Under the direction of the Manager Health Services - Surgery and in collaboration with the Department Head of Anesthesia, the Clinical Resource Nurse (CRN) assumes a leadership role in coordinating patient care within the healthcare team to ensure quality patient care outcomes, and promote an interdisciplinary patient-centered approach to care based on best practice. Demonstrating a commitment to the Mission, Values and Culture of the Victoria Hospital, the Clinical Resource Nurse is responsible for providing clinical nursing care to pre-, intra- and post-operative surgical patients undergoing an anesthetic procedure: This includes pre–anesthetic assessments, preparing patients for anesthesia and assisting the anesthesiologist during surgery, as well as maintenance and procurement of equipment and supplies. The CRN screens patient charts for needs and performs pre-operative anesthesia risk assessments including obtaining detailed medical history, patient physical exam’s including airway assessment, reviewing consults, labs and diagnostic tests including EKGs. The CRN assists the anesthesiologist with induction, airway management, intra-operative monitoring and post-operative follow up and is directly involved with teaching and in-servicing the nursing and support staff.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years recent related clinical experience in Anesthesia Nursing or ICU Nursing required.
  • Current CRNM registration required.
  • Current BCLS required.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish IV’s required.
  • Setting up and interpreting invasive monitoring required.
  • Demonstrated patient/family teaching ability required.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to work collaboratively with other health disciplines is required.
  • Critical thinking skills and the ability to work independently is required.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills required.
  • The ability to complete the job on a regular & consistent basis required.
  • A current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum 3 years recent related surgery experience preferred.
  • Bachelor of Nursing Degree preferred.
